No wonder the breastfeeeding rates in Brazil are so much higher than here.
Here is an ad: I
The mother in the ad is a famous person in Brazil ( actress I think) who did was in the commercial for free.
She says:
"In life there is time to play and time to be serious. Now that I am a mother I discovered that I should breastfeed Maria Luiza until she is two years old or older.
But pay attention: In the first 6 months she only need mother's milk so no tea, juice, water or pacifier.
So in the first 6 months any changes in their feeding only from one breast to the other" ( And she changes baby from one breast to the other)
Just awesome
See it here:

Why can't we have something like that??????

Wow.

I read somewhere that formula cannot be bought over the counter in Brazil and you needed a doctor's note to get it, but I've never been able to verify that on Google or anything.

I regret to say that that is not true. You can buy formula everywhere.
The thing is that they have a strong breastfeeding campain with lots of ads that is over 30 years old ( if I recall it right)
So even my niece that is just 2o and having her first baby there does not think twice if she is going to breastfeed. She just is, that is the normal thing to do.
I haven't lived in Brazil in 15 years but I still remenber those adds.
Heck I even have a pre-school/kindergarden book that my mom bought for my kids that has pictures of babies nursing on the breast very graphic.
Where would you see that here?
Someone would be calling the cops if a teacher showed a picture like that to her class.

Thanks for sharing this...it shows what other cultures can do...and it makes you wonder, what's the excuse that other countries have, for not doing the same.

Beautiful! My husband and I want to move to Brazil some day... isn't Brazilian Portuguese an amazing language?! Brazil is also where they have done an (old) amazing documentary called "squatting birth"... it was my inspiration during our UC! The women would birth all by themselves, squatting low and delivering their children. Wow. Although in the medicalized births of Brazil, I think they have a ridiculously high c-section rate.

Anyways... thanks for posting this, its amazing!
