I am going to be starting a knitting project in my next class, a baby sweater. Does anyone know what a knitting die is??? I am lost and can't seem to find one online except for in the pattern I am using. TIA!!

Which pattern are you using? Can you link it or type out where it says to use a knitting die- I've never heard of it, but in context it might be clearer!

don't know if this is right but...

The only time I've ever heard of a die being used in relation to knitting, it was when someone was using a D20 to count rows

a D20 is a 20 faced dice, the kind used in D&D

D&D dice?? I don't think they were talking about that, but who knows?!

Here is the link to the Chaos Sweater

Nope, just an ordinary six-sided die. You also, ideally, need a numerate child to sit next to you and roll the die for you as doing it yourself slows you down a lot. I used the pattern for my pratchgan square (I'll post a pic later) and loved it, but a whole sweaters worth would drive me insane.

Really, I have to use a die?? For what? I guess I am still confused. Is this to decide something in the pattern?

Random Cable Pattern
Row 1 [RS]: K2, [roll die and work next 2-4 sts corresponding with outcome of die roll] to last 2 sts, k2. (See below for details.)
Rows 2 & 4 [WS]: P all sts.
Row 3 [RS]: K all sts.
looks like it!

if this was posted on April 1, I'd think it was a joke

BTW, I strongly recommend teaching yourself to cable without a cable needle. There's so many cables (or there can be) and you have enough to do with the die.

Well I will be taking a class so I might be forwarding the pattern to the instructor to just say "help, I think I can do this......but maybe not!"

Thanks for the help!

You're originally from Spokane? Where are you now? I'm in Spokane for a few more weeks, but then we'll be in Redmond.

Have fun with that sweater. . . it looks cute!
