Bakery outlets

I've always remembered a bakery outlet in my home state and how great the deals were, but could never find one in my current area. FINALLY, on Saturday I found one! It's about half an hour from me, so it's not for every day, but if I'm up that way, then great! I wish I'd stumbled on it years ago...don't know why I never noticed it before.

Here's what I got for $9.95 including tax:

3 loaves of bread (the good, grainy kind)
Pack of 8 large cinnamon-raisin bagels
Pack of whole-wheat pita bread
Large pack of fig-newton type cookies
Small pack of Oreos (snack for son)
A "moon pie" (snack for me)
Hot dog rolls

...Not only that, but they gave me a coupon calendar on the way out...if I could've used it during my purchase, I would have gotten two items for free. They also gave me a stamp-card, so each time I go in and spend over $5, I get a stamp, and after 10 stamps, you get $5 off your purchase...and from my one visit, they were nice and stamped it twice.

(I really wish I had a large freezer, but I live in an apartment.)

Needless to say, I am enthralled with bakery outlets! How could this have eluded me for so long?!

I love bakery outlets. I am able to get really good whole wheat bread with no HFCS for about $1.79 each, which is a lot better than the grocery stores.

The one I like is across town, but luckily we have an extra freezer so I stock up when I go.

I LOVE our local bakery thrift. I rarely buy bread elsewhere, but when I must I end up shocked at the prices!

I miss living close to a bakery outlet, I always got the best deals there.

We probably couldn't afford bread without ours. We get the stuff that's marked down to go, but it's still good for almost a week after. Everything was a $1 but the price went up (the non marked down stuff is a lot more, but still a lot cheaper than the grocery stores!)

Does the bread have HFCS? The Orowheat outlet here only has bread with HFCS in it. It is a PITA. We end up getting the Silver Hill flour less, no HFCS bread from Costco 2 loaves for 4 dollars which is pretty good considering that at the co-op it is almost 2x that.

We don't have one very close, but in the past we did. The closest one now, well it's far enough that the cost of gas would pretty much make it so that I'd have to buy in bulk and freeze an excessive amount to make it worth it.

I love ours, too! I get organic loaves for 50 cents each I keep telling my friends about it, who want to shop more frugally, but none of them ever go there - more for me, I guess!

I wish I could find a good bakery outlet nearby.

Although, we have an excellent bakery that has a pretty decent day-old shelf. We got 6 huge, hearty raisin-bran muffins this morning for $1.95

On the calendar the bakery outlet gave me, I saw a website listed...in it, you can put in your zip code for closest locations!

(Except oddly, it didn't list the one I actually went to!)

But maybe this will help some folks find one near them...

Thanks so much for posting the locator - I have one much closer than I thought.

Ooooohh, love love the bakery outlet!! We have Orowheat ones here, and they're great. DH loves a bagel egg sandwich for breakfast and I can get a bag of 6 bagels for $1.29 (versus $3.49 in the grocery store for the same brand). We go every two weeks and put the extra in our upright freezer.

They have punch cards for a free pastry or loaf of bread, and the cashiers at ours are always so sweet to the kids.

They now have at least one type of whole grain bread with no HFCS, I just got a loaf as my free loaf last week. The HFCS does bother me, but the bagels and bread are one of the few things we eat that have it that I had to let it go. The price was just too good. We don't do soda in our home at all, nor most other processed foods.
