At risk for Low fluid levels???

So I am past my due date by 4 whole days. *gasp* The hospital that I have to deliver at, because I can't afford a non-hosp birth, gets all nervous and jerky when a vbac comes there way. So, the midwives have to suggest things like an ultrasound/bpp to check fluid levels. Currently, it is scheduled for when I am 41 weeks. I've done a bit of research and I don't think I need this testing done. At the moment, my plan is to cancel that appointment.

Can midwives "feel" low fluid levels when they palpate your belly? I certainly don't want to throw caution completely to the wind. Maybe consenting to the u/s at 42 weeks would be better? I carried my older two till I was 41w 5d.

ETA - opps, I thought I was posting this in I'm pregnant. Sorry.

One sign of low fluid is if your belly measures smaller from one week to the next. Honestly, if your baby's movement is normal and you're drinking a good amount of water I wouldn't think twice about it. At 41w5d with my youngest son I scored an 8/8 on my biophysical profile. There are just some of us lucky enough to gestate for 10 months and obviously our bodies were designed to handle it well.
BTW, I'll be getting those diapers in the mail on Wednesday. I'm sending them Priority so they should get there quickly.

Thanks DiD

What does a score of 8/8 mean? This week I measured 42 weeks. Last week it was 41. I had a NST today and it was fine. I'm really good at stressing over things LOL, but this low fluid thing is just not one of them.

A score of 8/8 on a BPP is perfect. Sufficient fluid, movement, practice breathing motions and normal heart rate increases with movement. My son was born at 42w1d with absolutely no problems from being post-dates. My placenta was totally healthy and believe me, when my water broke, there was a TON of fluid left. It was not at all uncommon before ACOG got all nuts about post-dates for women to gestate to 44 weeks or longer and their babies were perfectly fine and healthy. I know of many people personally and online that were born well beyond 42 weeks without any problems. I wouldn't even begin to think about any testing until I hit close to 42 weeks.

If your non-stress test was good, then it means your baby has enough fluid. Don't let them scare you. Relax and gestate! It won't be long now before your baby is here!
