My nausea is starting to get bad and it's freaking me out. I had HG with my last baby, and had to have IV rehydration about 4 times. My midwife gave me a script for zofran yesterday just in case. I'm terrified it will come back. I remember not being even functional for about a month last time.

I've read that milk thistle can prevent pregnancy nausea and vomiting. I started taking it about 2 months ago for acne and it is working for that but I can't say for sure if it will help with nausea yet. I didn't start puking last time until almost 9 weeks. I wasn't hyperemesis but I threw up all the time until 20 weeks.
I hope you have a better experience this time. I know we're supposed to be thankful for nausea but I'd prefer to keep all of my food in my body this time around.

I am on Zofran right now and used it in my last pregnancy and it saved my life and my sanity! I love it soooo much! I hope it works well for you, but if it doesn't, you could try Phenergan. My twin sister also has HG, and while Zofran didn't work out for her, Phenergan was a God send.

Oh, and I wanted to tell you, I had the best luck starting the Zofran before it got bad. It seems more effective that way. So fill the script and start now!
I tried Phenegran before and it didn't work for me. I dropped off my script for the Zofran and I will start taking it tomorrow. I'm trying to eat constantly so the nausea doesn't get a chance to get started. My biggest problem is work. I"m there for 4 hours and they won't let me eat

I had HG last time (please, please not again) and used unisom/B6. That, along with making sure I ALWAYS had food in my tummy, made it manageable. My midwife wrote me a script for Zophran, but my insurance wouldn't cover it and it was hundreds of dollars, which we didn't have. I also used phenergan for when it was really, really bad, but it knocks me out so much I can't really function, which isn't a possibility this time with two other children. I use phenergan for nausea w/ migraines, too, and I basically know if I have to take it I better find alternative childcare arrangements for the next 12 hours
I'm hoping the HG was because of twins and not just the way I handle pregnancy (and that there's only one baby this time around).

I had it with preg. #1. Couldn't keep water down for more than a min. let alone food (immediate :Puke) I was in and out of hospital with IV's too. I understand what it means to feel like you're going crazy with hunger and your body might let you eat and then BAM! get's rid of it the moment you put your fork down. Like some cruel torture you can't escape. And you feel like you're dying and that your baby will die from no nourishment. Finally after I lost 15lbs in 2wks they gave me reglan. With that I could eat a small bowl of spaghetti-o's and lay down for an hour or two until the nausea left (but at least it stayed down!) That's how I lived for 2.5wks after that, then I got to eat normally again, as long as I didn't drink milk!
Your midwife was kind to give you something "just in case". I had to cry and beg for help. The male OB's kept trying to call it "normal morning sickness" and that it will "go away" and wouldn't listen and finally I cried to the nurse practitioner and reminded her how much I weighed when I came in and told her I was "...so so scared." and "going crazy". She realized I had lost more than "a few pounds" and then had to give me a tolerance test before she could prescribe me anything. That woman saved my life!
I truly hope you don't get it again!

:Well just my luck I have it again
. I've been taking the Zofran. I have awesome insurance, I have filled my script twice in the past month and it hasn't cost me anything. I'm still sick though even taking the meds. The pharmacist gave me the kind that I don't have to swallow or anything, it dissolves on my tongue, so at least I don't have to try to keep pills down. I haven't been able to eat a whole lot, but I've only lost about 3 pounds this time, which is great compared to last time.
I do feel so bad for the baby though, feeling like I'm starving it to death
. I really hope this ends after this trimester. I'll go insane if it lasts the whole time.

I hope you're feeling better after this trimester. Nausea while caring for other kids is bad enough, I can't imagine it with hyperemisis.
