I have been so fortunate to not have had any plugged ducts, thrush, etc in over 10 months of nursing--so now I have no skills for IDing what the problem is. I'm lucky b/c LLL is later today but I'd like to know if I should start some treatments, so help me out, expert mamas!
So for a few days (I honestly can't remember how long now) my right brest felt tender when DD would nurse on it. I figured she had pulled off sharply or had been hanging on the nipple all night and it would get better; she has been teething fiercely, just got her first tooth at 10.5mo. But last night it seemed REALLY tender. I tried to ID where it hurt and how it hurt-- I pushed on the nipple a bit, and couldn't decide if the nipple itself was sore, or a spot just under there. It would sharpen in pain when I pushed in just the right angle.
So last night nursing (as DD has been latching on many many times at night) I realize my breast itself, deep in the tissue, is sore. I think it's sore in certain spots, which made me think it could be a couple plugged ducts?
This morning I see there is a light spot on the tip of my nipple. No other discoloration or change in my skin. I do have The Boobs That Ate New York and they are pretty fibrous to begin with, so it's hard for me to tell what's going on regarding inner lumps/points of soreness.
DD does have a white spot on the roof of her mouth but I assumed that was a pressure point from her upper middle tooth (still inside) pressing down into the gum. It's been there for weeks.
My LLL book says maybe it's a milk blister, sometimes caused by a plugged duct. I don't think I have a fever; I haven't taken my temp yet but I really don't feel feverish. I've had two PP periods one month apart and the expected third is nowhere to be seen, so you bet your boots I'm going to buy a test later today... but this is just on one side, which makes me worry less about being pregnant.
What do you think it is? The LLL book didn't have too much other info on symptoms. Thrush? Plugged duct? With blister? Onset of mastitis (because of multiple points of soreness inside breast now)? I'm off to dig out my old Mothering Mag with the article on breast infections... Thanks in advance for any help!
