What yarn do you use? I was thinking peace fleece and then learning to dye it, I just dyed roving for felting (here) and that was FUN, so I want to dye my own yarn too.

Hi Cara! (it's Emilie from thelittlenest blog )
I've used Peace Fleece for some soakers for my ds, and in my opinion it might be a bit too scratchy for that super delicate newborn skin, though I know others have knit up newborn longies and soakers with it. Maybe someone who has used it for newborn stuff will chime in.

I'd love to start dying my own yarn also

Oooh, knitting is something I just have not been able to make work. I try it for a week, get frustrated, and then throw it back into the closet in my sewing room for a few months. LoL. Crocheting I can do, but I suuuuuck at reading patterns, so I can't crochet much. Yet. :P

Crochet patterns are tough. I teach crochet and one of the most popular classes is how to read a crochet pattern. The best way to learn to read them is to start off with really easy patterns and just jump in. It's like another language or shorthand or something.

I use peacefleece for shorts/pants and did for the last baby. My recent batch of yarn seems to be softer than what I had previously bought, and it does soften with washing.

I'm a knitter! I'm CocoBean on ravelry. I'm just 4 weeks preggo and already planning my nb wool stash! I did not cd dd from birth (started at 9 mos), but will start right away with this one. Plus, we'll be moving from our toasty, radiator heated condo (where we kept the windows open during the winter! in Chicago!) to our own single family home where we'll be paying separately for heat. So, I know this baby will not be lying around in a t shirt and diaper! I'm planning to knit sleep sacks, soakers, longies and kimonos. I have way too much yarn, so, unless I decide to go totally organic (and I shouldn't; I need to knit what I have instead of buying more!) I'm already set in that department.

How many of each would you knit for a nb stash?

Oh, I just started knitting again in January for friends' babies. I have two friends due in the next few months, one baby blanket done and another on the needles. And then I get to knit things for MY baby!!!

I learned to knit when ds/dd were 2, but quickly realized that wasn't going to happen with two 2-year olds (I recently found the wad of yarn they'd unravelled and tangled in a brief period of maternal inattention). Now I'm obsessed with knitting. I've got 3 projects going at once, including my first pair of socks (ergh - itty bitty needles and stitches, icky). Unfortunately, I'm also hyper-obsessed with natural wools and have already spent WAY too much money on yarn. But my two big projects are baby blankets and I want organic cotton wrapped around a newborn baby!

I'm teaching ds and dd to knit. Dd is finally getting excited about it, after several false starts. Ds is an absolute natural - perfect stitches his first try, but he's not terribly interested.

Oh, oh!

Anyone know any good patterns for diaper wraps? We don't like pull-up style, so something w/ Aplix closures?

Oh me me me!!!

I'm finishing up a crochet blanket I started for ds2 and then it's open season on baby stuff. I'm having a hard time deciding what though. I tend to not use anything I make. I don't find any of my stuff practical.

Hmmm...

Just registered for an invite at ravelry...never heard of it before

If you want to knit something, Little Turtle Knits has a buttoned cover pattern (among others): http://www.littleturtleknits.com/pag...ngpatterns.php

I haven't bought any patterns from them, so I can't vouch for anything, but they look like a good idea.

Warm Hearted Woolies has one . . . and I think it's free. I knit it for a friend last year and really liked it.

I love knitting! And crochet. Although I'm terribly slow and always choose the most complicated patterns. But it is so satisfying. I'm crocheting a blanket for my sister's baby and knitting a bamboo/wool blanket for our baby. Would love to hear more about patterns for diaper wraps.

Thanks, ladies!

Here's the link for the Warm Heart Woolies pattern:

Looks good (and free )

I like the Little Turtle's pattern, too, but not the $13 price. It looks like the main difference is ribbing in the crotch (which I would expect to make it more absorbent and stretchier). I'm thinking about modifying the WHW pattern to add ribbing. . .

I also knit and crochet and I looooove ravelry(where I am genevieveann)
I am looking for the perfect soft yarn to start making some soakers. And my nine year old dd wants to make her first sweater for the baby!
