Sewing and/or crocheting two skirts together--can it be done?

My brother and his fiance have asked me to be a bridesmaid in their wedding on July 11. The only glitch is that the crocheted skirt my future SIL has picked out only comes in standard sizes S-XL. I am currently wearing an 18-20 and don't fit into the skirt. I am losing weight and plan to continue. I have lost 17.5 pounds since Jan 16 so I am hopeful that I will be a little smaller, but I know I can't count on being able to fit into the skirt. So before I look into other alternatives or whatever, I went ahead and ordered two XL skirts in the hopes that I could have them sewn together to make one larger skirt. It's crocheted with a lining.

Now what I wanted to know from crocheting or sewing experienced folks, how possible is this to do? Is it just going to be a big expensive nightmare? I am willing to spend a little more than I normally would since this is my one and only baby brother's wedding and I will be seeing all of our family and frends. But obviously, I don't want to break the bank.

Here is a link to the skirt:

We are putting same color bridesmaid tops of our own choosing with it so the size of the top is not going to be an issue.

Thanks!

It looks like it has a side seam. I'm guessing the skirt is made from two panels stitched or crocheted together on the sides. I would guess someone good at crocheting could take it apart and add a third panel from the second skirt but I'd guess trying to add just a few inches would be a problem. It would be tricky to cut through the panel because you'd have a bunch of places wanting to unravel. I wonder how stretchy the crocheted part is. Maybe the lining can have a little extra fabric added and the top could be minimally altered just at the waist. Maybe you could shorten it from the top so the new waist is where the original hips were. That might work if you are not taller than the other bridesmaids.

I was a bridesmaid once where the shoes the bride picked out did not come in wide. No way in hell could I wear them. I ended up going to every shoe store in the universe and finding something similar. I "altered" then by cutting off an extra strap and using a marker to color the inner sole black.

Looking at it (and depending on where you carry the extra weight) I think you may be OK. A second option would be to add two strips down either side seam, wich won't alter the drape significantly.
