? How soon do Red Cheeks appear?

???

We took DS, 14 months, off wheat/gluten because our biomedical Dr said he had a slightly elevated immune response and we wanted to "prevent" an allergy. All his bloodwork was clear.. no allergies indicated..

Ever since, he has had problems.. more reflux flares, red cheeks, loose stools, disturbed sleep *he is also dairy free)

I am coming to the conclusion that potatos may be the culprit. He has never reacted well to sweet potatos (although I think they are a different beast entirely???) Yesterday he had a bag of sesame/potato pretzles.. today his cheeks were very red.. then by evening faded to normal except for a spot.. like a bite.. but I'm not sure it is a bite..
Then he had some cookies made with potato flour at dinner.. 20 min later his cheeks are red again.. He also had gluten free meatloaf..I don't know if there was any potato ingredients in it, I'd have to dig out all the boxes of what went into it.. There could have been...

Is it too soon from dinner to 20 min later to see red cheeks caused by the cookies???

I am really struggling.. he had no bad reactions to wheat but has shown bad reactions to beans and now potatos.. most GF things have either bean or potato flour.. This is very disturbing.. I'm not giving him one thing to prevent an allergy and feel like I'm priming him with other stuff that IS causing a problem..

I'm thinking of just starting him back on wheat again..

My kids show red cheeks within minutes.

And I'm with you on the beans, there's a lot of gf stuff we can't eat because it has beans, soy, milk, amaranth, or potatoes. I end up making most of our stuff from scratch for that reason, or I make mostly stuff that is naturally gf.

I have a friend who has two little gf boys- and one is allergic to rice, the other corn. I'm not quite sure how she feeds them!

If I were in your shoes, I would figure out the current allergy before adding back in gluten. That way, when you add gluten back in, you can be sure you see no reaction.

Hugs to you, I know it isn't easy to sleuth it all out!

Sounds like intolerances. Two of my kids can't do nightshade (tomatoes, white potatoes, pepper, etc.) or legumes (soy, peanut, beans, peas). With DS, I remember giving him a couple of french fries and his cheeks flared up while he was still eating them and stayed that way for 30-60 minutes after. With DD, it's usually about half hour after eating that she gets the red cheeks. I hate to suggest it, but I'd do an elimination diet if I were you, to really find out the culprits.

I don't have a ton of time right now, but that is one of the reactions my daughter has to oxalates. You may want to search on my username and oxalates, and you should find some stuff about what we've found and a good website for basic info.

Potatoes and certain beans are high oxalate. Wheat is too, but not as high.
