Cleaning a Jacuzzi tub...

We are moving into a home with a Jacuzzi tub. I know that we are supposed to clean the jets periodically, and there is a recommended commercial product, but I am interested in cleaning with a homemade natural cleaning product. Does anyone out there have experience with this?

I use vinegar like you would use bleach. You just fill the tub up above the jets with hot water, pour in a big amount of vinegar & let the jets run. This has worked fine so far. We also take off the filter cover periodically & clean it with a toothbrush.

Great! Any other Mamas try this? Have you had good long term results?

I did this exact same thing to a tub that had not been cleaned in a long time and it worked great. The crud on the jets was so bad, I dumped a huge Costco sized bottle of vinegar in, filled the rest with really hot water, and left it soaking overnight. I ran the jets periodically a few times too. And then finished off the cleaning with a toothbrush. Came out sparkling.

THanks for posting this. We have a jacuzzi tub, but no one ever told me that I needed to clean the jets or the filters. Guess I should've figured as much, but I didn't.

I have heard the same. When we moved into our new house in July we did this rinse before using it the first time...the home inspector said 2 cups of vinegar I think...it's been a while, it may have been more (Oh, and dh did it )...BUT anyway...it works fine. We should probably do another one. Thanks for the reminder!!

i used vinegar before and it worked okay, but when my DS accidentally pooped in the tub last week and it got all sucked up in the intake (gross, i know! and i was in the tub w/ her!!!) i was forced to use bleach. and i must say the bleach got it way cleaner than the vinegar...i had never seen the jets look so white on the inside.

Bumping to say that I plan on trying this today. I had kind of forgotten about it, but then the boys (dh and ds) used it the other day and now I see it's kind of scuzzy anyway b/c they didn't shower first.

Same here. I guess I should add this to my list of things to do.

Does anyone know if you can use bubbles in a jacuzzi tub? I put some California Baby bubble bath in last weekend and my friend said you can't do that! I have no idea about this stuff.

I did the vinegar thing yesterday. I'm not really sure what I was supposed to be looking for though?!! I poured in a whole jug of vinegar and would let the jet go through one whole timed cycle (10 minutes maybe?) about 5 times. Today I noticed that I had a yellow "ring" around the water line. I took some 7th Generation shower cleaner and wiped it all off. I did notice some lint around, but I didn't know if that had anything to do w/the vinegar or not cleaning the jets?!!

I also took the two screwed in filter covers out and they weren't junked up or anything so maybe that's just b/c the tub is only 5 months old? We don't use it more than twice a month.

Regarding bubble bath. I've used some from EO and I know that I ended up w/bubbles galore! Mass amounts. Then I noticed that it warned me about that on the bottle!! I was under the impression that it was okay?? I do know that I had some Burt's Bees bath crystals that said NOT to use them w/jets b/c the salt would build up in the jets. Does it give any kind of warning on the CA Baby stuff?
