I've read so many threads here about various dopplers, but there's really not one thread that discusses them all. I'm getting ready to make the doppler purchase plunge and what to make the best decision I can. For me, I want to keep doppler during prenatals to a minimum but definitely need something reliable for labor, etc..

So tell me about your doppler. Maybe we could make this into a sticky?

What do you have: Medasonic First Beat
How long have you had it: 18 months
Pros: Good sound, easy to use, picks up pretty early
Cons: Has some electrical issues of unknown origin, not waterproof
Worth what you paid for it?: $160 on ebay
Would you buy it again?: yes, but I want to own at least two dopplers
If not, what would you buy next?: something waterproof

What do you have: Huntleigh D920

How long have you had it: five months

Pros: Good sound quality, waterproof probe, casing protects probe when not in use

Cons: probes are not interchangeable

Worth what you paid for it?: Yes, $212.50 on eBay (Stork Doctor)

Would you buy it again?: Yes

If not, what would you buy next?: n/a

Other: This model has a 2mhz waterproof probe... not rechargeable, and it takes a 9V battery.

FWIW, I also had a Sonotrax with 2mhz wp probe and I didn't like the sound quality as well, more screeching etc. One mw I assist has a Huntleigh D930 (just like mine but 3mhz) and I like it too. The other mw uses Nicolet Elite dopplers and while I like that the probes are ergonomic and have a broad beam, I don't like getting ky all over my hands.

What do you have: Nicolette Imex Elite, 3mhz?
How long have you had it: almost 4 years now
Pros: broad beam, ergonomic, easy to find early HR (IME, anyway)
Cons: not waterproof
Worth what you paid for it?: NOPE, I paid $580 and dopplers have REALLY come down in the last 5 years!!
Would you buy it again?: Yes, for cheaper
If not, what would you buy next?: a tria (love the magnetic probe holder!), or a waterproof, though I use doppler probe covers from www.birthsupplies.com with great success.

How long have you had it: 5yrs (I bought one in 01 and in 03 it was stolen from my car with all my equipment so I bought this one to replace it)

Pros: Good sound quality, early detection, waterproof, magnetic probe cradle, purple

Cons: needed cord repair, cost was 300 (like half of the original price!!), I told the guy I was not an inst, just and independent practitioner and he gave me a little discount. Also, the plastic body casing is cracking, I am going to have to glue it.

Worth what you paid for it?: Not if repairs are that expensive.

Would you buy it again?: Not sure, I would really have to do more research about other options...repair costs, other folks experience with longevity
