baby not gaining weight

My baby girl is not gaining weight as quickly as I thought - should I be worried? I’ve been looking at a book for some advice and it seems that she’s a bit lighter than others at 2 months age…Should I ask our doctor about it? She hasn’t said anything about it so far, but I was wondering if I should ask specifically… Any advice?

Doctors are very strict when it comes to low weight in babies. If your doctor hasn`t said anything then there is probably nothing wrong.
May I ask a few questions to clarify your situation? If you are breastfeeding:
How many times does she nurse in 24 hrs?
What was her lowest weight and what is it now?
How many wet/dirty diapers does she have in 24 hrs?

Since we cannot measure how much a breastfed baby actually gets the only way to tell is by counting diapers. Here is a good website about that

Hope that helps

Even if your baby is small, as long as she's tracking a growth curve (and not dropping from 25th to 10th to 5th percentile, for example) there's no need to worry. Your doctor will let you know whether you should be concerned. FWIW my son was 50-75% height and 5-10% weight until after he turned one. Now he's continuing to gain weight at a rapid rate and has jumped up to around 25th percentile weight. He's still quite skinny at 21 months, but our doctor was never worried about him. When my husband expressed concern about his weight gain at age 2-4 months, the doctor looked at DH like he was nuts (he's 6'5" and 185 lbs) and said, "look at yourself in the mirror!"

ps - you can access growth charts from the CDC at:
