suzukiaustin: CONGRATULATIONS!!! What a beautiful name!

----------------
So I'm realizing that dandelion root is essential to keeping my m/s at bay. I felt sick this morning, took milk thistle tincture but that didn't cut it until I took dandelion root. All hail dandelion root!

Congratulations suzukiaustin!!!!!

Wow, very cool. Now that I think about it, makes total sense . . . all about supporting that liver, right?

Hello everyone!

We're doing pretty well here. I wish stuff would start growing! There's so little decent produce available and I want greens. I actually got kale last week that had come all the way from california.

I'm also very tired and I think I'm not keeping up with iron. I make beef at least twice a week, and pretty much eat some kind of meat every night. But most of my protein seems to be dairy and eggs which just isn't cutting it.

congratulations suzuki! good luck with the breastfeeding! just take it one day at a time. :

paquerette, chlorophyll might help with the iron until you can get your fresh local greens.

Geez, I have been so busy with the baby and homeschooling I have lost track of this thread.

suzukiaustin - congrats on the new babe!! Sounds like a wonderful birth. I was very sore breastfeeding this time also, but the soreness has pretty much gone away at one month.

I didn't find any difference in my morning sickness with my dietary changes. I was terribly sick with all my pregnancies, including all but one of the miscarriages. I did feel better in other ways during this pregnancy, but I think some of us are just destined for ms. Oh, and mine always started about 6-7 weeks and lasted until about 16 weeks.

So, I am finding eating a good TF postpartum diet to be very difficult. My advice to all you pregnant mamas is to prepare as much as possible ahead of time. I didn't realize how much time I spent preparing food, and that seems to be much harder now. I have resorted to feeding everyone cereal for breakfast just because I simply could not cook breakfast, clean the kitchen, and get anything resembling lessons done without completely losing my sanity. I think I need some ideas for quick TF breakfasts (we have done soaked granola, but I have yet to make a batch since Teddy was born).

sigh...I think I jinxed myself saying that the dandelion root and milk thistle worked so well...the nausea has come back off and on, though thankfully it's better than it was before.

I am taking this to heart. After our second I could barely get enough to eat and we were not eating tf. I know I spend quite a bit of time cooking and preparing.
As far as breakfasts....how about making a casserole type breakfast with oats, eggs and fruits? I just cook up a bunch of grains (we are gfcf) and have it reheated for breakfast the first day and on the second mix in a few eggs and pop in the oven.
Sometimes it just has to be cereal!
Sounds like you are doing a great job.
Best,
Brooke

My naseua did the same thing and I think finally ended a few days ago (about 17.5 weeks)-although I am probably jinxing myself.
Sounds like it is on its way out!

Ok, I think I need quick breakfast suggestions too, as well as things I can pack in a lunch.

I've been struggling with morning nausea and all-day low appetite (it feels like my stomach is smaller, I get full really quickly), and I've lost 20 lbs since Feb.

Help me out, mamas! I was a bit overweight to start, but I can't keep losing weight like this.

I wasn't going to post until we heard the heartbeat, but I have so many symptoms there can't possibly be anything wrong this time...I hope. Anyhow, I need some suggestions for symptom relief. I'll be 6 weeks tomorrow and I have tons of heartburn (even drinking water give me heartburn!), I feel bloated frequently, I feel like I'm getting a yeast infection (I never do but I itch like crazy), and dinner tonight did not taste good at all so I suspect morning sickness is on its way, in spite of the milk thistle I've been taking for months and months. Help!

In desperation I tried the dandelion root...no caps at the co-op, so I had to get the cut/sifted root and then grind it in my mortar and pestle.

Lo and behold, I felt so much better after I started it. Now I've added milk thistle tincture and the combination seems to have totally killed it! YAY! Today has been excellent! Thank you so much to the person who suggested it!

Now I'm just crossing my fingers that it stays that way...though now I am battling heartburn. The heartburn is so much more tolerable than the nausea though. Anyone have any tried and true remedies for heartburn?

Oh, wonderful! I'm so glad it helped you. Come to think of it, I do remember drinking some milk thistle tea too when I first started the dandelion root. I quit bothering with it fairly quickly though when it seemed that the dandelion was doing the job nicely on its own.
Heartburn...argh good luck with that one. I got some chewable papaya tablets and I think that they help...but my heartburn is so random in occurrence/duration that it's hard for me to say!

Ok gals, I was tired of the constant nausea and decided to try the dandelion root remedy. Well lo and behold it worked. So I posted on my blog about it. And one of my regular readers commented a caution that dandelion root is a diuretic, which I *don't* want to be taking during pregnancy. Now I looked in Susan Weed's herbal and she lists dandelion as safe throughout pregnancy and *doesn't* have it listed as a diuretic.

But I'm seeing conflicting info online. Some sources say dandelion is, others say just dandelion leaves are. All my other books are still in boxes from our move so I'm just not sure. I do know I don't want diuretic effects though, as diuretics have been proven dangerous during pregnancy.

Any thoughts??

yeah, the little bit of food I froze seemed to really be a lifesaver. That, and dh making beans and mexican type foods several different ways for quick lunches, dinners, etc. Not to mention frozen stews, etc.

I guess my advice looking back would be to get a system in place well before.

And after the birth, seize every moment! Embark on things with a hefty dose of CLO, and liver pate and keep a good attitude.

My biggest trouble this time around was management. My day starts out pretty much like this: wake up, nurse, change diapers(all of this done bedside as I was recovering from my third c-section. Remind dd(who wakes me up and won't leave bed without me) that I will make her breakfast as soon as I nurse. Help her in the bathroom. Set baby on a boppy in the kitchen close by while I make coffee and breakfast, trying to keep him happy. Wake up ds and try to get him to eat.
Then once everyone is fed and I have changed several diapers, I may get to relax a bit and start doing projects. So breakfast has to be something easy unless it's a reaaaaally good morning.

How long have you been interested in Traditional Foods and how did you first learn about it?

I have been eating traditionally for about 5 years and just this past year...mostly Gluten Free. I ran an organic produce co-op for a while and I had several TF members who exposed me to the idea.

When is your baby due?
Officially Dec 16th....I am normally right on or within 2 days of my due date.

Which number child will this be for you, and what are the ages of your other children (if any)?

What kind of birth are you having?

HBAC w/midwife

I have had #1 - Hospital PROM, induction, FTP C-section
#2 - Hospital VBAC, PROM w/mec.
#3 - HBAC w/baby transfer
#4 - HBAC...perfect!

What are your other interests/hobbies?
Hmmm...homeschooling my kids, I work P/T to F/T from home and I COOK all the time!

What part of the world do you live in?

One crazy fun fact about yourself!
My husband has a funny name that sounds like he was named after a movie.

DH, the researcher in the family (nerd alert!) checked it out before I started taking it and said that from what he saw, it was only the leaf part that was diuretic. He didn't see anything about the root, other than the pages that you probably saw too that said all dandelion is a diuretic.

For anectdotal evidence, my personal experience is that it did not affect my urine output, it just seemed like my normal extra amounts of peeing due to the pregnancy.

I just wish it was still consistently working for me...the last week has been pretty awful despite taking it, even with milk thistle.
