Any suggestions for shelf/drawer liners that aren't plastic. DH just installed beautiful real wood cabinets, and I want to protect the surfaces w/out using plastic..

TIA,

Bamboo placemats?
My grandmother always used paper. She called it shelf paper and just folded it
to fit. (I actually still have it in a few pieces of furniture I got from her) But it looks like plain greyish newsprint type paper that you can buy in bulk to wrap stuff up for moving.

Thanks for the suggestions. I like the bamboo placemat idea for the shelves that "show", and material for drawers and lower shelves that will not have glass doors. I guess I can use double-sided tape to make the corners stick.

cork?
This is off topic but what is the point of shelf liners? I have always lined my shelves when we've moved, but am not really sure why.

I use kraft paper/brown paper to line the shelves in my closet, might not work in the kitchen if you have the habit of putting things away wet.

As to why to do it, it keeps water marks, scuffs etc from the shelves. And if your shelves were painted with Latex paint (which is a no-no), it protects them from peeling.

I plan to use paper "shelf paper" when I'm done re-doing my kitchen, which I hope will be soon, as I'm sure tired of scraping paint.

hmmm...I'm looking into cork as it is attractive, natural, and mildew resistant. It looks like I might be able to order a big roll of it online.

I don't see the point of shelf liner anywhere but the kitchen, but I guess I've used it in bathrooms when the shelves were unsightly.

Thanks!
