In the gusset section it discribes a gusset extension. What is it telling me to do? Just knit the gusset alone so that it is longer? It sounds like you are only extending one side of the gusset is this correct?

Don't worry. Just follow the directions and it comes out great. I think it's so that the gusset is longer on the bum. Anatomical reasons, you know?

I paused at that point too, trying to figure it out. I decided to trust Mandie though, and it all came out perfect.

I'm in the middle of the gusset on my third pair right now- I lovelovelove this pattern!

I have done other gussets and they aren't as hard as they look. This one just threw me because you knit back and forth on just the gusset which I haven't done before.

How did it go?

Don't be scared, it's really easy. I'm on my fourth pair of shorties now

Keep in mind that before this pattern, I didn't even know how to yarn over

I feel so crappy I just cant seem to figure it out!!! What does she mean by K10 (6), turn? I've never seen something like this before...

Help Help!!

The numbers in parentheses are for if you are making a narrower crotch, for instance if you are using disposables.

Just choose whether you want a normal crotch or a narrow one and ignore the other number on each line.

I make a normal crotch, so I k 10 in the example that you gave. Ignore the (6).

Thank you skyastara!

Another question (trying to figure out how to ask this w/o sounding too confusing):
when its time to start the gusset, do you do the M1R,k,M1L before and after each marker. I I think I messed up big time..there is no separation, like it still all looks like one row on my round and no splitted area with just some messed up looking criss-crosses int he pattern. boo hoo.
After each marker. You do it, go to the next marker, slip the marker, do the L and R increase with the k x times in between them, then go to the next marker again.

If that makes sense.

Also, I'm not trying to get rid of you but Mandie is fantastic about answering any questions.

Thanks! I think my problem lies in not doing the M1R or M1L correctly. I will have to investigate!

Mine still looks like a normal row on the needles too. I thought it was supposed to look that way. If you sort of hold the knitting up and look at it (below the needle/cord), you'll see a subtle triangle forming, right next to the markers.

Ok, I promise this will be my last question, as I have hijaked this thread

I emailed Mandy but havent gotten a response and really want to get movin' on my longies. I have a question about the split for the legs-what do you mean "pick up and knit 3 stitches along the left edge of the gusset that you just worked, 1 for each round."
TIA !

You will have a long patch on the gusset where you just lengthened it. She has a section explaining what she means by "Pick up and Knit" and you will need to do it there on the gusset. Just don't forget to do the other side or you will get a big hole like I did.

Ok, one more time
What does this mean: "Knit around the leg to the front center marker. Remove marker, and bring the front of the pants around next to the back, completing the leg circle. Pick up and knit 1 more stitch from the front side of the gusset, and knit 1 of the stitches you already picked up at the back of the gusset. Place marker at inseam, and continue knitting around 1 leg."
(I feel reallllly slow, but I truly dont understand this.)
TIA ladies!!
