corn allergy and Vit D

My ds is allergic to wheat and corn. I am only breastfeeding except for rice cereal and some orange vegetables...starting slow because of problems. My question is that with my other kids I gave them Tri-Visol for Vit D and it has carmel coloring in it with a corn ingredient. It's winter where I live so he gets very little sunshine...what can I do for vit D? I gave him a little Rice Dream in his cereal and he didn't do well...Well it might have been the sweet potatoes, but I am not going to give him either for awhile. Any suggestions?

I never gave my kids vitamins while I was breastfeeding. I specifically asked the ped. and he said they weren't necessary, even Flouride (and we drink well water). I also don't use sunscreen unless I'm going to be out all day in the sun, so I get whatever the sun is meant to give me. You can increase your intake of foods that are high in Vitamin D as well. But if there are questions about food allergies, I'd be really careful about extra things you give your son. You can always call the company and ask them about the ingredients.

BF babies really don't need any extra vitamins. Our bodies are designed to make vitamin D from sun exposure.

However, if you really want to give him dietary vitamin D, cod liver oil is a good choice.

Thanks. I guess I am just worried because my ds's cousin has a baby that got rickets. His legs are really bowed out and that can be caused by a lack of vit D. Anyways, I probably worry too much....

I think the A & D in cod liver oil are really nice, but it's touchy since it's a seafood product. I don't have any other ideas.

I was going to suggest what we used, Just D, but I think it's dissolved in corn oil. I don't have any anymore to look at the bottle and be sure, though, so you could call and double check. Another thing you could do is find an appropriate brand of Vitamin D capsules and cut them open -- the capsules I use are 400 IU each, which is also the infant dose.

We don't do vitamins either, but what about plain 'ol vitamin D whole milk? That's corn-free, right?

Oh, my bad, I should have wrote...also sensitive to dairy. In my elimination diet he had problems with it if I ate a lot. Also ds1 is highly allergic so I am waiting until later to introduce dairy. It was sunny and warmer out today so took him outside...it will be getting warmer soon...hopefully. Thanks for the suggestions.
