There is a PUBLIC montessori program at Dr. William Cobb CDC. It is an authentic AMI accredited (
www.montessori-ami.org) Montessori program that began three years ago. They have two classrooms of primary(3-6 year olds) children right now--22 in each and are about to open a third classroom in the fall. Children 2.9-3.5 are eligible to enroll. Families pay according to income on a sliding scale fee if their income is over $100,000. Costs are a third of private school. It is not a charter but part of 46 centers the city runs for preschool age children. Next year kindergarten age children will be staying and then the following year a Elementary Montessori track will open upstairs in the Elementary school attached. The district considers it a groundbreaking endeavor. But the word is out. Interested parents need to call the school and schedule a visit/observation. We've been very happy there. It's the real thing if you want gold standard Montessori.
