Do you know this school personally?

I looked it up on the SFUSD website and it does not mention that it is Montessori based education.

Thanks for posting.

There are actually meetings being held about a new Waldorf charter school in SF. Search for a Yahoo Group about San Francisco Waldorf Homeschoolers, and you'll probably find a mention of it.

There is a PUBLIC montessori program at Dr. William Cobb CDC. It is an authentic AMI accredited (www.montessori-ami.org) Montessori program that began three years ago. They have two classrooms of primary(3-6 year olds) children right now--22 in each and are about to open a third classroom in the fall. Children 2.9-3.5 are eligible to enroll. Families pay according to income on a sliding scale fee if their income is over $100,000. Costs are a third of private school. It is not a charter but part of 46 centers the city runs for preschool age children. Next year kindergarten age children will be staying and then the following year a Elementary Montessori track will open upstairs in the Elementary school attached. The district considers it a groundbreaking endeavor. But the word is out. Interested parents need to call the school and schedule a visit/observation. We've been very happy there. It's the real thing if you want gold standard Montessori.

There IS public Montessori in SF

Dr. William Cobb CDC is a PUBLIC Montessori program. Free for anyone going to school or retraining or looking for work. Tuition based for 3,4's --Kindergarten up will be FREE starting next fall. The tuition is 1/3 of private Montessori and sliding scale fee based by state standards. PFA money helps make mornings free for 4's. They are both AMI accredited and a Preschool for All site which means they are quality. We've been very happy with it. It is the real thing--AUTHENTIC MONTESSORI. The district is starting to change and try to incorporate high quality programs in a way that they influence the system rather than stay outside it (like charters).
