Removing a Polyp: Been There Anyone?

Hi Ladies,
I'd like to know any experiences anyone has had with polyps.
They found one in Nov. during an HSG, not in the wall though, just beyond the cervix and the size of a pencil eraser. The RE didn't really know whether such a little thing could be causing our IF troubles (esp. when we know lots of other issues), but he felt it was a good and minor precautionary thing to remove with a simple poylpectomy. Not so simple. The polypectomy was in Feb, but didn't work due to the dome-shape of it. So they scheduled a surgery which was last Friday, however that didn't work either. My cervix wouldn't dilate. SO, surgery #3 sched. now. I've half a mind to bag this altogether. It will be 5 mths. dealing with this by the time we can really try again, though I'll probably do it in the end.
Has anyone BTDT? Was it this hard to get rid of? Do you think it was contributing to your fert. prob? If so, how? Did you get preg. after it was gone? TIA!

I had a few polyps removed after an HSG a few months beore I conceived DS #2. They put I think Cervadil in my cervix to cause it to dilate. It took about an hour and wasn't too bad. I think it helped overall.

HTH,
Thanks for the reply Nisha. Just wondering, Did they remove it via a surgery with full anesthesia or an in-office thing?

It was with full anesthesia in the hospital.

Hey Poetgirl!!! Nice to 'see' you!!

I'm sorry that the polypectomy didn't work, maybe it's due to the angle of where it is. kwim? I do hope the next one works tho!
As for thinking it has contributed to IF. Myself and Hezzy from the 12+ months thread had polyps removed, she got pregnant the VERY next cycle, and I got pregnant after 3 more periods. She had unexplained IF for 16 months I think, and I had unexplained IF for 21 months/cycles (forgive me Hezzy if that's wrong ) So the answer is YES! I do think it contributes to IF. I miscarried or had a chemical pregnancy 3 times during that 21 months. I hope that answers your question.

I did have mine in the hospital under anistesia tho, and not in the office.

Good luck and I'll be thinking about you!!!

Thanks Tenk! I am holding your post dear as I've hit a bit of a frustrating hurdle-ish place with all this. BTW, it's so nice to see your preg. progressing. You look so cute! I am taking something? Monday to make the cervix start dilating, then I get a "dilating stick" put in on Tues. then Wed. hopefully this will all be over. Thanks for the positive wishes!

I have had 2 surgeries to remove polpys that were in my uterus. I am hoping it will clear everything up. This is my first cycle with a fresh start, so to speak, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Both times were in the hospital with full anasthesia.

GL Starr! Sending you : for your cycles ahead!
Glad to hear you are polyp-free!
Can I ask why it was 2 surgeries? Did you have a problem with geting your cervix to dilate as well? Tomorrow I go in to have a "dilating stick" put in me, something I don't love the sound of, and then we try again on Wed. Fiingers crossed!

Well the first time I went in me and my Dr. were expecting to find endo, which I had had years before. So she scheduled a laporoscopy and once she was inside she discovered no endo but that I had polyps. She started removing them, there were many, and accidently punctured a hole in my uterus. So she stopped and said she felt confident she had gotten them all out but she would schedule a saline ultrasound in 6 weeks to make sure.

So after six weeks I went in for the ultrasound and there was a small cluster still there. This surgery went much easier. It was more like a D&C with no incisions, although she did say she had a heck of a time getting my cervix to cooperate. I felt fine after a day or two. Now they are all gone and I waited one cycle for my body to heal. I think I am going to test tomorrow, but trying not to get my hopes up.

Well the third time it worked! I am *as of today* polyp-free, thanks to the help of dilating medicine and a dilating stick that was put in yesterday (interestingly enough, made of seaweed--this made it a bit easier to embrace). Hopefully this has a positive effect on our fertility! And what a relief, to have no more surgeries. I didn't like that much at all.

GL Starr! I hope you get preg. very soon.
