Is mineral water good for you?

I can't find any information about mineral water (ex:Pelligrino) online. Is it a beverage consumed by traditional cultures? Is it a good source of natural minerals, or is it as dangerous as soda but without the sugar (I'm thinking about the carbonation and wondering if it is dangerous)?

Thanks

Subbing. I was thinking about bottled water recently too, specifically Smart Water.

Interested to see the responses here.

gosh i hope its not bad for you. we go through a lot of that stuff, and it got my husband off of soda.

...oh, and just in case you follow the nestle boycott, i was recently bummed to find out that pellegrino is owned by nestle.

There are natural springs that put out bubbly water. They have all the minerals of good spring water plus some natural carbonation. Most companies that bottle that good spring water also artificially carbonate it because the natural stuff isn't very sharp bubbly (think water kefir vs. soda)

I'm not sure what the addition of carbonic acid does in respect with mineral absorption and digestion in general.

You can always check the label to see which kind of mineral water you have. There's so much variation...

I like bubbly water with some juice. Sometimes I go through several glasses...

I drink mineral water, but I like to get the kind that is bottled just as it comes from the spring with no additives. You can get water that way that is naturally lightly carbonated, or still water (no carbonation). I look for the water with high mineral content (usually calcium or magnesium) since I'm lactose-intolerant and figure I need the extra minerals. Gerolsteiner and San Faustino are two brands I like.

I know people have been drinking mineral water straight from the springs at least for centuries--I imagine probably longer.
