I wore newborn DD in a Moby and wasnt asked to take her out ever. It was great.

That is really frustrating that airports are so inconsistant on this policy. It's the same with knitting needles - they're supposed to be allowed but it's up to the discretion of the TSA agent. Seems very silly to me. Either something is OK or it isn't.
