Paranormal Investigator/Romance novels?

I'm not sure why, but the books I read are spread out into different sections of the bookstore even though they are alarmingly similar in theme. Anyway... Does anyone else read these authors?

Laurell K. Hamilton
Tanya Huff
Kim Harrison
Kelley Armstrong
Jenna Black
Patricia Briggs
Jim Butcher
Janet Evanovich

And can you recommend anything similarly awesome? I've kind of read everything I can find.

I've read Harrison and Evanovich (athough just her counting series).

Barbara Hambly's "Those Who Hunt the Night" is a similar style set at the turn of the century.

Robin McKinley's "Sunshine" is another, although neither has enough sex to count as a romance novel.

I would put Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse vampire books in with those - they are pretty good.

I also liked Ilona Andrew's Magic Bites.

I second Robin McKinley's Sunshine.

I think LA Banks is similar, but my sister read one of hers and didn't enjoy it - I haven't tried any.

I usually have luck on Amazon, with the "people who bought this also bought__" feature.

Good luck!

Oh - the ones I mentioned probably aren't as R rated as I have heard L K Hamilton can be.

LKH has gotten carried away lately... to the point where the sex supercedes the plot. It's annoying.

I tried LA Banks... Not my thing. Maybe I'm not "black" enough (haha, I'm mixed) but her writing style drove me crazy.

Jeaniene Frost has one book out (Halfway to the Grave), which was very good, and another coming out in a few months.

You might also like Sharon Shinn, though her stuff tends more towards fantasy than urban fantasy.

The Smart B*tches Who Love Trashy Books had a recent thread on this stuff - there are tons of suggestions in the comments there: http://www.smartbitchestrashybooks.c...urban_fantasy/

Oh, I forgot one of my favorites - C.E. Murphy. I thought "Urban Shaman" was one of the best I've read in this genre. It was her first, and the rest have been very good, too.

Also Laura Anne Gilman. And Linnea Sinclair, though she is more SF/romance than fantasy.

And if you can tolerate some literary pretensions, check out Elizabeth Kostova's The Historian.

Y'know, I somehow mentally put those into the original list or I would've put those in my list too.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I really enjoy Jayne Ann Krentz, she also writes under the name Amanda Quick and Jayne Castle.

Did anyone mention J.D. Robb (who is Nora Roberts)?

The "Death In xxxx" series is pretty different from the Nora Roberts stuff, and you might like them, even if you don't like NR.

Lately I have been reading a lot of Lynsay Sands. She has a series of vampire romance novels. I usually don't read romance but I really am enjoying these.

Some of my friends who like early Laurel Hamilton also really like Jennifer Armintrout.
