I agree, and I have no problem with plot points being left out in general. But I disagree with some of the choices they've made! For example it made sense that they left Hermione's SPEW out. But some particular omissions thoroughly disappointed me and pissed me off.
Snape's tirade at the end of PoA. I was so looking forward to Alan Rickman doing this scene. When Snape defiantly showed his dark mark to Fudge. That would have been an excellent scene to communicate to audience members who don't read the books that Snape isn't a black and white character. Would have only taken a moment.
When Dumbledore asked Snape if he's ready to do something mysterious and difficult at the end of GoF. Again, it significantly developed his character and would have taken all of a moment to portray.
And I pretty much can't forgive Yates for leaving out Harry's tirade at Dumbledore at the end of OotP. It was the heart of the story. It summarized the adolescent rage Harry had been feeling, his anger and disappointment with Dumbledore, it was a huge step for Harry. He permanently leaves childhood and loses his innocence. Harry's relationship with Dumbledore changed in that scene. And I would like to have seen how well Daniel Radcliffe would have done it.
Really, I feel as angry about the loss of that scene as many of the Lord of the Rings fans did about what Peter Jackson did to Faramir's character. It's a huge shame and I don't trust Yates. He'll probably leave the tower scene out of Half Blood Prince.
