anyone else think this is how all the movies should have been made

That's awesome.

Maybe this time the key players will even read the books.

I heard about that. I think it's fantastic!!

I would've loved for the movies to have been longer but I've been trying to come to terms with that whole "it's just an interpretation of the book" thing.

at least they've been getting better since the horrid first one

I think they should make the rest of the books into two films. I HATED the latest film because it seemed like things were either skipped or smushed in.

It's a good idea.

Now we get an extra Harry Potter movie to look forward to! I read somewhere that even though it's going to be split into two, they are filming it all at once. So I wonder how long of a break they will have in between releasing the first half and the second?

I thought the first one was the best, actually. (At least it was more true to the book then subsequent ones have been.)

There is such a gap between the time I read a Harry Potter book and the time the corresponding movie comes out that I don't notice and/or care what parts of the book are not depicted in the movie.

All of that said, I'm thrilled that Deathly Hallows will be two movies, because that's one more movie to look forward to!

They say, No no, it's not for financial gain! It's purely because Deathly Hallows is so big. . Whatever. I'm glad they're doing it. But if any one of the books should have been split into two movies it was Order of the Phoenix.

I agree. I was so disappointed when Chris Columbus was made director. All I knew of him was the Home Alone series. Now I think the first three movies are the best so far. If only they could get Chris Columbus and Alphonso Cuaron to collaborate.

Same for me. I can't tell what's missing or different by the time I see the movie!

We're totally excited that it's being split up! Ds was like "Finally! What took so long?"

I second that! POA is by far my favorite HP movie. I just love its look and mood.

It's funny how differently everyone sees them.

I think the first two are sweet&cute and I enjoy watching them, great movies for kids that adults can enjoy.

But the next three are just plain great movies. Movies for adults that just happen to be about kids.

I'm glad Yates is doing the next three ... I think OotP was just an outstanding movie. If *he* would collaborate with Cuaron, well, then that would be just incredible.

But then again, I don't take fealty to every detail of the books as a prerequisite for liking the move. They're loyal to the books without being entirely bound by the details, and they get the required points across ... you know? And Rowling seems okay with that, too. She was very clear that she didn't want stories made up out of whole cloth, she wanted the movies to be taken from the books, but at the same time there's wiggle room to make them more film-able. YKWIM?

I agree, and I have no problem with plot points being left out in general. But I disagree with some of the choices they've made! For example it made sense that they left Hermione's SPEW out. But some particular omissions thoroughly disappointed me and pissed me off.

Snape's tirade at the end of PoA. I was so looking forward to Alan Rickman doing this scene. When Snape defiantly showed his dark mark to Fudge. That would have been an excellent scene to communicate to audience members who don't read the books that Snape isn't a black and white character. Would have only taken a moment.

When Dumbledore asked Snape if he's ready to do something mysterious and difficult at the end of GoF. Again, it significantly developed his character and would have taken all of a moment to portray.

And I pretty much can't forgive Yates for leaving out Harry's tirade at Dumbledore at the end of OotP. It was the heart of the story. It summarized the adolescent rage Harry had been feeling, his anger and disappointment with Dumbledore, it was a huge step for Harry. He permanently leaves childhood and loses his innocence. Harry's relationship with Dumbledore changed in that scene. And I would like to have seen how well Daniel Radcliffe would have done it.

Really, I feel as angry about the loss of that scene as many of the Lord of the Rings fans did about what Peter Jackson did to Faramir's character. It's a huge shame and I don't trust Yates. He'll probably leave the tower scene out of Half Blood Prince.

I'm excited but so impatient!

I feel like they should have started doing this (splitting them into 2) with the fourth movie (GoF), there are just so many details that provide a cohesiveness to the series that got left out of the movies.

: The "interpretation" was definitely closest.

I love that they're doing that, I don't know how I'll make it to the release date!
