I have thrush BAD in one breast. I have tried everything...and it keeps coming back. I can't take more Diflucan because on the last few days of my second round I got a horrible itchy rash that burned. My milk gets so clogged with inflammation and milk blisters which makes it impossible to nurse. My question is...how do I wean on one breast? The thrush on the other side is managable. How long does it take for the milk to dry up and will the thrush be gone if the milk is gone? Any suggestions would be helpful....SO SAD!!!!!!

I don't know how to wean off of one breast. I've been battling thrush on and off since DS was born. The only thing that has helped is gentian violet, it seems to take a few days after I stop using it to clear up though. When I've had it worse in one breast I will just pump it until I can stand to feed on it again. You're right, it is sad, I feel like giving up almost everyday but I just try to hang in there.

I'm sorry you are going through this, I hope it gets better for you.

Thanks. I just started to wean on that side and the swelling has gone done alot. Before it was just a lumpy engorged mess and the more ds nursed, the worse it got. So my midwife said give it a week without nursing on that side and try again. Hopefully then I can go back to EBF. I hope you are faring better.

I recently heard something about new theories about the symptoms that have long been labelled thrush in the nursing breast - that it may actually be bacterial, use of Bactoban (?? not sure) may help?
I will try to find where I heard this, sorry I'm not more clear.

Hi mama!
Thrush is no fun! I can see you are really feeling poorly!

Here is a link to Dr. Newman's Candida Protocol: http://www.thebirthden.com/Newman.html#Video%20Clips
Just scroll down.

In addition to everything you have tried, have you thought about it transferring from your clothes? A hot wash with soap is not going to do the trick, add in some white vinegar, and boil your bras daily. Seriously!! Anything that touches your babies mouth or your nipple needs extra scrutiny.
