Got yelled at at the Peds office ...

So i took my 5 yo DD to the docs yesterday, because she has very bad seasonal allergies and asthma. so we could get a few refills on her inhalers. So the doc (old school doc..) starts telling me that she needs 3 shots..and that she hasn't had any in a very long time ( i vax'd for a while with her then stopped..my 2 yo only has about 3...) anyway he is telling me that she needs MMR, Chicken pox. and Hep A..i said no thank you she is fine...he starts yelling at me telling me that i am harming my children and i am taking a big chance by not getting vax'd and starts rambling off all of these stats about children dying form some of these diseases..oh i was so pissed, but didn't give in..
Now there is one doc in the practice who is cool with not getting your child vax'd, and will help you in anyway possible(she was the one who told me my DD's dont need a second MMR and told me all about Holly's Law here in NJ)..i was supposed to see her yesterday, but she was called into the ER for an emergency..we will make sure to see her from now on.

Nothing like yelling at someone to get them to change their mind. Sorry you got stuck with a doc with such poor manners.

Its a good thing you have her as an option otherwise you would be looking for a new doc. Seems odd they are in practice together with such differing ways.

Ya know, these old school docs seem to think that they can get parents to change their minds by scolding them....and it probably used to work. But parents are getting more and more assertive about their children's health and not allowing these doctors to bully them into vaccines.

I have the same situation at my kids' ped practice. There are 4 doctors in the practice, and I will only allow my kids to see one of them. And even he is barely comfortable with our non-vaxing. I'm seriously considering switching to a GP.

Well although i really don't like being talked down too ..lol i did come prepared and had an answer for everything he had to say...My Grandmother told me she was very impressed and that she was very proud of me for standing for my beliefs..and Dh gave me a big hug and kiss and said Thanks for being a good Mom..i thought that was worth all of the crap the Doc spit out..

sometimes I wonder with these doctors how much of it is the money. They get paid every time they give a shot. Pisses me off when they try to push parents to do things they don't feel are right.
