is it too late...

...for me to make a felted Easter basket? (This would be my first attempt at felting.) I found a cute one on Ravelry. Anyone else have a great pattern for one? Do you think it's too late for me to do this with Easter next weekend?

I would think that if the baskets are simple and made with a thick yarn they would be okay to still start.

Felting is really pretty easy, that being said you do have to let them dry and that can take a couple of days.

I don't think it's too late. I my experience, knitting for felting goes pretty fast; the gauge can be pretty loose (and some felters I've spoken too say the looser the better, as that allows the fibers to rub together better and felt up). And if you have one really sunny, warm day between now and Easter, that would probably be enough for your basket to dry outside.

Sadly I live in Maine where March (especially this year) is not so likely to be sunny--but I can put the basket in front of the heater! I'm going for it after a trip out for yarn today...

I think you have enough time. You could throw it in the dryer to start the drying process, then let it sit as long as you can to dry on its own. When I have felted, it comes out of the washer spun to just damp, not soaking wet.

Maine, schmaine . .. you definitely have enough time, if you knit quickly! I would look at your week ahead and see if you will have enough evening time to finish by Friday . . .then felt friday night and you should be okay for Sunday morning.

Happy knitting! I just finished a birthday scarf for G Thursday, just in the nick of time for her Friday birthday. Deadlines don't bother me - though I do tend to go right up to the deadline! as long as that doesn't stress you out a bit!

Actually I work better with a deadline! I went out and got the yarn this morning and have cast on--DS is about to lay down for a nap so I am hoping to get a good start on it this afternoon (yes, I will be ignoring the dishes and vacuuming that should be done instead!).

I didn't realize I could start it drying in the dryer. That should help!

Can't wait to see them! The dryer is a great idea too.

Good luck, sleep kids sleep!
