Indiana gives us the right to pump @ work!

From today's Indianapolis Star:

"Senate Enrolled Act 219 spells out that public employers must provide breaks for employees to extract breast milk and must make "reasonable efforts" to provide a private room for the breast milking and a refrigerator to store the milk in. It also requires employers with more than 25 workers to allow the breaks and refrigerators when "reasonably possible.""

I think I woke the dead when I yelped with glee when I saw this.

It's a good thing. :

ETA: The actual text of the law is here-- http://www.in.gov/apps/lsa/session/b...Bill&docno=219

Welcome, Indiana, to our (sadly) very exclusive club of enlightened states! And good for you!

OH WOW! I am wayyy excited for you. Gee, if I lived in Indiana I would not have had to quit my job then! Great news. Maybe the rest of the states will follow suit.

Wow. That's great! I hope others will follow.

YEA!!!! and...let's hope other states follow suit! I reaaaallly an hoping to see something in the news for Washington State...the only breastfeeding law that we have states only that public breastfeeding is not indecent exposure. We don't have anything protecting our RIGHT to breastfeed in public nor any provision that requires employers to provide breaks for pumping. Ideally, all states should have such measures in their lawbooks. Well, there's a lot more work of us lactavists, but we're certainly making progress!

I was in a meeting with the State Breastfeeding Coordinator about this last week. Unfortunately my son was a complete terror and I heard little to nothing about it! Then info is still in the car. I'll post more later.
