Danielle, just an update on what I spent for Terran's next-size-up stash:
Elasatic@ $1.30 + Velcro @ $5-10 (I'm not sure how much I'll have left when I finish the final cover)=$6.30-$11.30
The polyester fleece was left over from making slings for my l'il Etsy store, but it's usually aobut $3.99/yard at JoAnn's. The sheets were priceless, but I'm sure you could find flannel sheets at a thrift store for not that much money. IIRC, I got a dozen 30" x 30" squares from each set.
Don't get me wrong--I'd love to have the beautifully crafted Biobottoms or Bumpies or else DIY with organic wool and be using $89/dozen hemp prefolds and I sure wouldn't turn up my nose at Baby Kanga's, but $300 would pay for both boys" health insurance for a month or most of the rest of what I owe for next summer's CSA farm share.
Sometimes the best way to "go green" is to be happy with what you already have.
As an added bonus, I need fewer fleece covers since they can go in the dryer in our super-damp climate and the flannel squares need far less time in the abovementioned dryer than prefolds or even "real" flats would so that reduces our carbon footprint and our power bill a tad more..

). I have already gotten 10 Med. Fuzzi Bunz to have on hand, and I have ordered prefolds in every size through a co-op. I plan to do more prefolds and covers (I'm making fleece and wool interlock soakers) after I sell off the small Fuzzi Bunz, but I'll probably end up buying more med FBs, too. We'll see how it goes with the prefolds; at the very least, I can use them to stuff pockets.
