I just talked to a friend who was talking about "sealants" used on alot of mugs, plates, etc. And paint on dishes etc. What do you use? I thought I was good switching out the pastic cups w/ coffee mugs for the kids.

I have stone wear that I get from the local pottery shop (I live like.. 10 mins from Yellow Springs ohio, it's great )

If there are sealants, I don't care. You have to weigh your options, I have to eat off something, and If I am being poisoned, I would rather be poisoned and support the local economy and craftsmen. I have some bamboo things too, But they don't last as long as I would like

I have a set of franciscan Desert Rose dishes. It is glazed & fired in a kiln. I think that should be safe. I took a ccouple of ceramics classes in college. All pottery glaze is made from chemical compounds ( iron, cobalt, etc.). But the firing turns it to a glass of sort. We drink out of plain old clear glasses.

I have dishes and clear glasses from Target.

Like a PP said, I have to eat off of something.

Corelle, which is a type of glass ceramic, and stoneware and some pottery bowl and plates I've made.

For drinking, we use glass and ceramic, not much plastic at all except for the travel mugs on long trips.
