First Attempt

Ok, my first attempt at making my own diapers was today. Please SOMEONE tell me it'll get easier, or at least less maddening!

I couldn't work the serger right, I couldn't get the elastic to gather the way i thought it should. Luckily i was doing this with my MIL and she is a pro on her machines. I'm still not sure that the dipes turned out right.

Please give me any advice you can I'm making fitted dipes right now, flannel w/ terry/flannel soaker pads. Once my PUL comes in I'll be working on AIO's... anyone have a favorite pattern?

TIA!

there are a lot of patterns out there. i tried 3 free patterns, the ottobre, wee weka and rita's rump pocket.

my opinion, based on my kids, wee weka worked best, i love the narrow crotch though i think the pattern was a little off in terms of sizing, but that could be my printing. they hv many patterns and i like their pocket stitch and turn nappies. i did some adjustments. ottobre was great but it was also huge,RRP is a bit bulky since it does use more fabric than the previous.

it does get easier and you will realise you get better and better as you sew more diapers. my first 3 diapers were horrendous and it wasnt till my 4th or 5th diaper, that it looks nice, not overly professional but nice, i've now done a dozen and i can say they are really nice.

best thing about sewing your own? you get the right fit for your kid.
