when to introduce nuts or peanuts to intolerant toddler

DD reacted to tree nuts through BM at 11 months old and I stopped eating both tree nuts and peanuts at that time, and didn't give them to her, either. Now she's 27 months and I'm wondering when to try introducing nuts or peanuts to her directly (she's weaned). She's on a very limited diet due to food chemical sensitivity and food intolerances and it would really help if she could have cashew butter occasionally. And is she really any more likely to be anaphalactic to tree nuts or peanuts than a child with no food intolerances?

We're waiting until age five on peanuts. We're being cautious because both dh and I have anaphylactic allergies.

I would wait until she's at least 3. I don't know if she is more likely to be allergic because of the food intolerances, but I wouldn't want to take the chance.

Have you tried sunbutter, made from sunflower seeds? My son loves it! I usually buy it at SuperTarget because it's cheapest there, but you can get it at Trader Joes, Whole Foods, and online.

You can have her skin tested for food allergies to be sure (have you tested for food allergies?).... but honestly I would wait too! It sounds like a prime situation for something bad to happen.

Tree nuts have a HIGH level of cross contamination with peanuts!!!

I second the Sun Butter, you can also order it online.

Sunflower seeds are typically cross-contaminated with peanuts. Check the label. Soy butter (Walmart makes some - a few others) are available that are totally peanut-free. They have comparable nutrition to peanut butter with 2g more sugar per serving (4g versus 2g in p.b.).

We are waiting until age five here. I'm allergic, DH is not. Our five year old is not, but our younger two we are very careful about.

We have used Sunbutter, which is certified to be free from traces of peanut protein. Although I don't worry about cross-contamination as DD is only intolerant, not allergic, and isn't super sensitive. The only problem with Sunbutter is that she can't have it too often due to her food chemical sensitivities, whereas she could have cashew butter every day due to its lower level of food chemicals. We don't eat soy at all, although I've been tempted to try the soy butters.
