seething WIC appointment

I am so sick, sick, sick of bad advice. Until today, my local WIC office has been one of my best supporters. My dd (2.5 years) was there for a re-cert and I was there for a prenatal exam. The nurse told me that breastfeeding my daughter will cause miscarriage of my unborn child. My jaw hit the floor, and I replied that I had never heard of that. She went on to tell me that it was absolutely true and that I should wean my dd TODAY-- otherwise, I would be killing my unborn babe. I just shook my head and got dd's lead test. I have been seething about it ever since. No, I've been in tears.

So gals, who do I write or call about this?

I'm not sure about the most effective way to complain, but "Adventures in Tandem Nursing" should be mandatory reading for WIC counselors.

That's crazy! The office where I worked as a Nutritionist had other nurses in Families First that were livid about us telling moms they could BF while pg. My supervisor is an IBCLC so she is very knowledgable and I have read enough to know what is bull honkey, but anyway, it was a point of contention at our office.

I would call the state office and go from there. You can always pick up a complaint form at the office (in NM anyway) and give it to someone else there.

I'm so sorry!

I just Googled "how to file a complaint about WIC" and lots of information came up according to state. So I would do that and go to the information for your particular state.

My uptight, high medical interventionist, hoity toity OB/GYN actually encouraged me to continue nursing my then 4yo dd throughout my pregnancy with ds in spite of my hyperemesis and other issues (she knew that CLW is important to me) and said that she has several patients who do so.
