Best fabric for inside of pocket diaper?

I've been making pocket diapers for my little ones, and for the layer that touches their skin I first used flannel, then Birdseye, and they worked beautifully except that they wore pretty quickly where corners of the soaker would rub and at the seems where they rubbed. Then I used suedecloth which had no problems with wear, but my 2nd seems to have more sensitive skin and the synthetic stuff seems to irritate it. Is there a better option??? Is there a good natural fiber for this application that won't wear through like my first diapers?

Thanks!

I use microfleece in my fitted pocket diapers - I love how it wicks the moisture away from baby's skin. I think you can get all natural microfleece, either 100% cotton or bamboo or hemp... HTH!

i use microfleece too but i think it will be best for you to try bamboo or hemp. if cost is an issue, you can use natural fabric as a liner and synthetic for the rest of the diaper.

Wow! I didn't even know bamboo was an option. Thanks ladies! I'll look in to those options pronto.

I use cotton velour. My son is sensitive to suedecloth also.

Do you think the cotton velour acts as a stay dry layer at all?
Is hemp fleece a stay dry, or only absorbant fabric? Do they make hemp or bamboo "micro"fleece?

i use bamboo valour, hemp fleece, or micro fleece. all of these are "stay dry" fabrics

From my experience with cotton velour, it remains wet feeling. I don't have any hemp or bamboo yet, but I have not seen a "microfleece" in either. Bamboo does naturally have wicking qualities though, so I'm hoping that bamboo fleece will wick moisture through to the soaker well. I guess we'll see! Anybody else know about this?

I'm mostly a lurker around MDC, but I wanted to throw my experience out there for what it's worth. Maybe there are different kinds of bamboo velour, but I've used it for inners on several diapers and IME they are not stay-dry at all. They are usually sopping wet when I pull them off of DS, same with bamboo terry (the terry makes great soakers tho!) I also have hemp fleece, which stays moderately dry to the touch, but not nearly as dry as fleece or suede-cloth. I've never used bamboo fleece, though. I'd be interested to hear what others' experieces are with this stuff.
