sneakers!

I am having the hardest time trying to find good sneakers for my son! It seems like the flexible ones with good support ( that he had when in the toddler sizes) have disappeared. We are going on vacation in a month and there will be lots of walking. Good adult walking shoes/sneakers are everywhere but I want my son to have good ones too. He is five and wears a size 11. Can anybody help? Thanks

DS walks and runs everywhere here in the city - in the summer we're out walking for at least 4-5 hours and he's always just worn Cons and with no problems.

But I know when I was at the New Balance store getting some gear I did notice they have real runners in kids' sizes.

Last spring I bought him Keen's. A pair of sandals and a sneaker/shoe type. He refused to wear either after getting a blister the first day wearing the sandal. I thought they seemed very stiff, but because I had heard nothing but good things I gave them a try. I didn't know that Merrell made sneaks- thanks. And thanks for taking the time to respond ...

To prevent blisters you can do two things: buy Bodyglide or the like from a running store and put it on his feet before putting his shoes on and/or when you buy new shoes or sandals and before wearing them out in the world have him put them on and then put his feet in water (the tub or a bucket) and wear them around the yard. As they dry they'll form to the shape of his feet and so won't need breaking in. I have friends that swear by the water method. It only works for leather and we don't do leather so I've never tried it myself. Running lube is made for preventing chafing and blistering and do use it so can say it definitely works. It's also non greasy and non staining which is great.

My MIL just bought the most awesome sneakers for my DD this weekend. They were pricey, but DD LOVES them. Highly flexible, completely machine washable, removable footbed w/green tea extract apparently to fight bacteria...

They are made by Tsukihoshi. Here's a link to the Tsukihoshi boys sneakers on zappos:

Zappos is awesome by the way... though MIL didn't buy them online, if you know his size, I'd highly recommend their site. Really good customer service, I've had great experiences with them.

Ds is happy with his New Balance sneakers and he is pretty picky about comfort, His shoes before were expensive Primigi shoes that didn't have cushy soles so his feet hurt quicklt when walking even though they were soft and flexible.
