He's turned into Demon Baby - help me brainstorm!

Since Sunday Peter has morphed from a happy, sleeping well baby to Demon Baby. He doesn't cry all that much, but he's stopped sleeping and wakes most every time we put him down. His poop has turned from yellow to green, and he's started spitting up a tiny bit. Not much at all - but this kid had NEVER spit up before Sunday.

So, I'm thinking his belly is bothering him, but I can't think of a single different thing that I've eaten. The poor guy is driving me crazy! Any suggestions?

Have you eaten even a differnent spice on your fod, it could be something small. Yesterday I was at work and ate some hot peppers on my food like I used to, not thinking that Anisa would be eating the same thing at her next feeding. Needless to say, she let me know about it later, this child cannot tolerate any spicy foods.

What colour green???

Has he just started both boobs at one mealtime, by any chance?

flapjack, he's always done both boobs when nursing. I'm not certain how to describe the green...it's a brightish green, sometimes mixed with a bit of the yellow color of his normal stools.

isra, good idea about the spices - I'll have to think on that one

Are you taking any stool softners? they made DS1's poop green.

Hi,

Popping from another due date club! Could he be getting more foremilk than hindmilk? I recall from dd that if she got too much foremilk that it could cause her stools to go a little green.

No great advice, just something to ponder.

Good luck mama!

Little Z turned into a demon last night too... no fever, but tummy seemed tight. I think it was a food thing too? I had a lot of raw veggies and black beans yesterday, and it might have been too much gas-producing stuff for her. A guess!

I'm with jacqueline- I suspect that your supply may have suddenly increased for some reason and he's struggling with a fore/hindmilk imbalance. That's my best guess. Try going to one-at-a-time and see what happens? It's easier than starting the elimination diet rigmarole...

i second this. (or third?) i've been pumping like a madwoman because i have to go back to work and it seekmjs like every time i get up to speed with pumping and my supply increases linnaea starts having tummy issues (crying, very watery poos with hardly any curds, tight belly) until i lay off the pumping and my supply normalizes.

Ok, thanks for the advice, mamas! I'll read on kellymom about foremilk imbalance; I'm not that familiar with it. Playamama, Peter's poops have been exactly as you described - watery with almost no curds.

He was slightly better yesterday and is almost back to normal today...thank goodness!

Sounds like classic fore/hind imbalance--green stools plus fussiness. Try block feeding (nurse only on one side for a couple feeds, then switch) and see if that helps.

yay!!

linnaea's have been getting better...i didn't nurse or pump my left side (the garden hose) for a full day to try and get her some hindmilk. it's working! though when i finally gave in and pumped i got almost six ounces with probably 1/2 oz of high fat...no wonder her little tummy is ouchy.

i'm worried that when i go back to work she will be getting the watery stuff and we'll go through the whole thing again

Grrr. Cancel that. :

Today he would only really sleep in arms - even the swing (which is usually golden) didn't work. His poop is mostly back to yellow, so not sure what's going on. I think I'll start the block feeding suggested tomorrow if we're still having issues.

I also started keeping a food/fussy journal. Maybe I can figure out a correlation.

playamama, I'm glad your babe is doing better.

I def. prefer block feeding to double boob feeding. We just do one boob per feeding unless she just seems insatiable. DD seems very satisfied and we only have occasional fussy times which is usually overstimulation. Could he be overstimulated? Sometimes Robin gets worked up even by a light being on. Our kiddos are growing!

And unless the spit up is just outrageous, I wouldn't stress about it. A little reflux is extremely common for this age, and according to my midwife little boys are more prone to it and do it for longer than girls, so that is probably unrelated to the fussiness/green poo (although I know Robin HATES spitting up and fusses in relation to it).
