Attitudes toward BFing in Scotland and Ireland?

Any mamas from Scotland and/or Ireland, or mamas who have been to either country?
We'll be going to Scotland and Ireland in about 2 months for vacation. DS will be 1 by then.
I know that Scotland has a very progressive breastfeeding law, but I'm curious as to what kind of attitudes everyday people have there and in the Republic of Ireland.
If you've been to Scotland or Ireland with a nursing babe or toddler, how were people when you NIP'ed?
I'm just curious about what kind of attitudes people experience/experienced.

I saw a woman breastfeeding in Edinburgh Ikea about 5 years ago........... thats the only time I've ever seen someone NIP.

Scotland and Ireland have some of the lowest rates of breastfeeding in Europe. I have never had a problem NIP though. I don't think people have the same sort of attitude to NIP as I've seen in the US. But thats maybe because no one breastfeeds, so people never see it to complain about it! Health professionals are very pro-breastfeeding, and there is no formula advertising here. But if you do have any bf problems theres not much help available. I have no local LLL or support groups. I've found most women who wanted to breastfeed have given up due to lack of support

If you visit the Falkirk Wheel come down and breastfeed at my house if you like. I live right next to it. I have a William too Mine will be 4 this year though. Hope you enjoy your trip. I'm quite sure you won't have any problems NIP here.

I have a friend from Ireland that mentioned that generally everyone was very supportive of breastfeeding for infants, but was NOT suppotive of child-led weaning. She lives in the US, so she was just commenting on family support (and culture came into it)-- she always had to deal with it when she went for visits.

Obviously, she thought it was quite silly but we never dived in deeper to discuss why that might be the case.

I went to Ireland before I was pregnant for class and I just remember seeing homeless (or near so) mothers with young babies a few times, something I've never seen in the states. At the time I didn't notice any breastfeeding or bottlefeeding going on, but I wasn't looking either.

Sarah- thanks for the invitation!
Williams are wonderful. aren't they?
We'll be staying in Glasgow for almost 2 weeks with DH's aunt and a few days in Ireland.
I know Scotland has a pretty good NIP law (I believe I read that a person is not allowed to tell a woman to stop breastfeeding at the risk of paying a large fine).

Jessjgh1-
I've heard that too.
My friend from Ireland (who only breastfed for about 5 months) says that she felt a little out of it because no one seemed to breastfeed over there.
