baby is biting me

so my 10 month old is really into biting now that she has 6 teeth. ouch! it's not just nursing biting, but like biting me on the shoulder, arm, leg, wherever. she does it, it seems, out of exuberance and the desire to say hi or something. she's not mad or anything.

what do i do? it hurts. i've been firmly saying "no. no bite. that hurts mommy." doesn't seem to be making an impression, though. is she just too young? or is there a better approach?

my mom told me when her kids did that, she bit them back. errr. uh. not gonna do that.

thanks.

it's a phase! ds did this at that age too. i realized i had been pretend 'biting/chewing on' him and he was just mimicking (although he didn't understand that he was actually biting while i was just pretending). so i started saying, no bites, let's kiss! every time he bit and then i would kiss a lot during the times i used to 'nibble' him. he stopped biting pretty quickly after that.

ds does this too. On my shoulder a lot. and then my knee last night, but that hurt a lot more! It seems to me like ds is teething and it feels good or something. i just hope it ends soon. when he does it he smiles at me. don't know if i should be worried about that! lol
