Realistic Dinosaur Books for 3 Y.O.

I hope I'm putting this in the right forum...tis confusing sometimes. Anyway, ds is very interested in Dinosaurs right now and is quite interested in learning about how they became extinct, what they did when they lived on the earth, etc... he is 3. He keeps asking for books on the subject and I was wondering if any of you had some good recommendations for books that are not cartoonish... rather factual ,but on a child's level. Any input would be much appreciated.

this book frickin RULES!
http://www.amazon.com/Dinosaurs-Wate...5884375&sr=8-1

my 4/5yo ds would HIGHLY recommend it. in fact, 2 years ago we bought a few copies as gifts for his friends. it's not about dinosaurs, per se, but about the man who brought them into the public eye, out of the realm of academia.

aside from that, he's all about the scholastic and DK books at the library. he's definitely the kid who wants to know exactly what they ate, how their claws were shaped, where they slept, etc etc etc (etc etc etc). in my experience, any book with the name of the specific dino as the book's title is a safe bet. they get REALLY in depth on all the juicy little details

wow. i feel pretty lame right now. when i saw this post i was like "yeah! i'm a damned expert on dino books!" my monkey would be proud that i've been paying attention, though.

There is one by Berenstain that is really good. It is realistic but not gory. Your local library probably has a ton of dinosaur books in the non-fiction area because it is a subject that many many many kids love. If he doesn't do well with gore try to screen them first.

We have a few Usborne dinosaur books that are very good. In general, Usborne makes great non-fiction types of books on most subjects.

This one is sort of an Eye-Spy dinosaur book, but it's got lots of facts and realistic pictures as well. Each double-page spread focuses on different types of prehistoric life, it's not all about T-Rex or whatever. Like one is a picture of an ocean with all of the prehistoric animals that lived in the ocean.

We have another one that I can't find that came with our Usborne dinosaur excavation kit. Oh, here it is. I wouldn't necessarily recommend the excavation kit though. It made a huge mess (which I guess I should have expected) and the dinosaur bones don't stay together now that it's been excavated, so the boys get frustrated when they try to play with the skeleton.

And we don't have this one, but I've never had a bad Usborne book!

And here's the Internet-Linked First Encyclopedia of Dinosaurs and Prehistoric Life.
