whoa! I tried to watch that... It's 20 min long, but I could only 7 minutes of it! time to go to sleep. It's quite a downer!!!!!!!!!!!
Wish I could've skipped to the end! Hope I don't have nightmares!
It's all true and a good message, but I wasn't quite prepared for the weight of it all here as I finish off a lovely evening and prepare for bed. ah well. I'll try and finish watching it tomorrow.

I watched this a little while ago and I must have sent it to like 50 people. It's so simple and smart.

LOVE it!

i wish i could get this mind set into my inlaws head. i just might have to email the link to them. we have 4 girls and therefore i don't like owning throw-away type stuff. i've tried explaining that to my inlaws a million times but they just don't get it.

the 6 mo thing was interesting to hear. we buy new, but we buy for long term use. clothes, furniture, toys, appliances, electronics, etc. and when we've outgrown it, or outused it we donate to friends or collection agencies.

the building to break, WOW!!!! it doesn't surprise me, but it makes me realize how much i need to be SURE i buy for quality.

great thread!

okay, I finished watching it. It got much better after I got to chapters 4-6. I watched it on youtube. The first part was hard for me to watch. I rarely do think about the extraction of the materials that go into my products I buy. Also, I rarely think about the people who make my products. But, it is GREAT to do so. It reminds me of a song called "my shirt" or something like that by Sweet Honey In The Rock. They sing the whole process of the cotton becoming sewn into a shirt and shipped... It's so important to try and be aware of the WHOLE picture. Not just - a cute radio for $4.99.

I watched this movie a few weeks ago and while I already buy secondhand there were some things I bought new. Now I find myself looking at things prices for $1.99 and feel sick because some poor kid/mother probably put it together and the company is probably dumping the waste into their water supply.

It is so important to buy quality, preferably local products!

Thanks for the link!

I watched it and learned a few new things and confirmed some things I had already surmised. Definitely worth the 20 minutes!

I also emailed it to a group of friends and shared it with a larger group of friends via a message board. My hope is the more it is shared, the more we as people ("consumers" and "voters" etc) can affect the cycle.

I just watched it and shared with a bunch of friends. It makes me feel bad..but I want to do better. The next time I buy something I'll definitely think will I still use/want this in 6 months?
