In my opinion, save your money. If she wants to know more about GD, she'll persue it herself. It's very hard to convince someone to change their ways, and giving her a book about something that she's already set against is not going to help your relationship. You've already planted the seed by mentioning it to her, mabye if she sees you use it she'll be more open to it.

I really liked Pam Leo's Connection Parenting, because it's short, to the point, and offers examples of what to DO, instead of just going on about what doesN'T work and WHY. A lot of it is based in the assumption that you are connected to your kids, but it does have a chapted/section on "reconnecting" with older kids, up to teens.

HTH!

ETA: I mean already connected... like you've been APing and you're starting this "method" at a really young age... sorry... that confused ME when I reread it!

ETA again: I really love how she addresses the fact that we mess up a lot... repeating what our parents said, ETC, going back to old ways... and talks about what we can do in those situations as well... I believe she calls it "rewind, repair, replay".

Oh I see That makes much more sense.

I'm in the middle of "Playful Parenting" and think it's wonderful. He specifically addresses "bad" behavior and why. He never talks about punishing a child for having strong feelings. I like it alot. Not sure if it's what you're looking for.

A lot of my mainstream friends like the "No Cry * Soluiton" books by Elizabeth Pantley. She could try the "No Cry Discipline Soluiton" - it doesn't rule out time outs, but emphasizes having a bunch of other things to try, so you aren't stuck with just one method when that method breaks down.
