Boo Boo on The Montel Show

I happened to have the television on this morning and think I caught a boo boo on the Montel Show. It is well known that Montel is very much against circumcision so it was shocking when a guest who specializes in skin care recommended TNS Complex. This is a cream that is made with infant foreskins as an ingredient. I think Montel would have bleeped the name out of the show had he known the source of the ingredients for this product.

I've written him but lots of e-mails will get attention when one won't. Please explain how the foreskins can not be contaminated with anesthetics so these boys suffered immeasurable pain just to make this commercial product available. The e-mail function is at: http://www.montelshow.com/mail/

I also noticed on the show today Montel mentioned that HPV can kill girls but not boys.Can't penile,anal,oral or skin cancer that HPV causes kill a boy as well?

According to The Campaign for Cervical Cancer and HPV, cervical cancer is "virtually 100% cureable." I take that to mean with a combination of pap smears and surgery, deaths can always be prevented. Of course, the pap smears have to be frequent, not once a decade.

My specialty is not proctology or dermatology (no, I'm not a MD) but I don't suspect that skin cancer is caused by HPV. Maybe someone here knows more about that. First, to keep it all in perspective: Penile cancer affects approximately 1 man in 110,000. There are 5 different types of penile cancer and only one type, squamous cell carcinoma in situ can have it's origins from the HPV virus. (or any connection with circumcision) That means that the chance of getting cancer due to not being circumcised is exceedingly rare, something on the order of 1 in 500,000.

We also have to keep in perspective the diagnosis and treatment of penile cancer and the prognosis for successful treatment. Squamous cell carcinoma is simply a type of skin cancer. It is successfully treated by excising. (cutting away the cancer) This cancer is an obvious cancer presenting as a small sore that doesn't heal. It is also a slow growing cancer. The remedy is an in-office procedure that excises the small leision. The only way that penile cancer becomes deadly is if the man doesn't seek treatment for years and allows the cancer to become invasive.

Circumcision proponents use the penile cancer justification to promote the circumcision of all boys but if you look at all the factors, it makes absolutely no sense! For instance, for every man who actually contracts penile cancer, seven infants will die from the circumcision procedure. These are just the men who contract penile cancer, not die of it. It makes absolutely no sense to risk the death of a single child to protect the very rare man from penile cancer that is so irresponsible with his own health that he causes his own death.
