I actually think that is a tremendous improvement! I wouldn't expect her to suddenly become pro-cosleeping, but she clarified the risk factors, and mentioned the benefits of breastfeeding. She even brought up the risk of nipple confusion.

I think this is a case of MDC mamas really making a difference!

Thank you. It is amazing what a little letter and a quick phone call can do! Got more work to do in the co-sleeping area. But hey Baby steps! Right???

I personally think the safest place for an infant to sleep in is its mother's arms, on a dirt floor in a hut, suckling on the breast. But I don't have any medical authority.. I'm only backed up by thousands of years of the specie's survival.
I am so quoting this to everyone I talk to!!!!

Babies who cosleep in a smoking household, with a smoking parent are statistically more likely to die of SIDS.

Australia had an entire public service campaign targetting aboriginal mothers for this very reason. The culture cosleeps, the smoking rate of mothers is through the roof, and the SIDS rate in those familes had gone through the roof. This is where it started to become very apparent.

I met a mama in the ICU, when my son was in for his first heart surgery. We were talking and I found out her baby was in there for aspiration of formula. I didn't specifically ask, but it sounded as if the baby's father had propped up the bottle. It was so sad. I don't think she made it either. I don't know for sure, because I didn't see the mom & dad again and the baby wasn't in her room anymore. And of course, because of confidentiality, no one at the hospital could tell me what happened.

That's horrible!
I bottle propped, once, and I felt so horrible about it after I walked away for a moment and I realized what I had just done.
