Curly Purly egg question

Do yours look like eggs?

I just knit three real fast and was planning on doing more but only one looks like an egg. The other two seem to lose their egg point pretty fast and the more they get played with the more they look like mis-shapen balls. The picture on the pattern look so cute and egg like! Mine....eh.

Do they all eventually lose that egg-y shape? I figure the one that does still resemble one will continue to do so but only because it is a very stiff bulky weight yarn and was a pain to knit.

the one I knit according to her instuctions came out huge and not at all egg shaped.

i went to a much smaller needle (US 4s i think instead of 8s) and they looked much better. and were about egg sized too. I can imagine if they got handled a lot they would probably lose their egg shape.

I thought smaller would do that. I made a couple more and the smaller one looks more eggish for sure. I've done 2 with 8's, 1 with 6's, and 2 with 3's. One of the ones on 8's and the 2 on 3's seem the most eggish. Yarn seems to have a say in it too. When I'm done (I have a couple more planned) I'll take pics.

Mine do not look like any egg that currently exists in nature, to my knowledge.

How did she do it!? I've noticed stuffing has something to do with it too. Can't be too firm of a stuff....

Maybe I'll try yarn scraps instead of poly-fill.

I did one with yarn scraps. It's my ugliest one.

Mine came out fine. I've knit over a dozen now, most last year but a few this year. I used fiberfill and #3 DPNs with worsted weight yarn, mostly. Here's a pic of some of the eggs (plus a bunny and teddy bear) from last year:
