Getting baby used to sling

Okay, a few sling questions - our little guy's 3 weeks, and my DH has been slinging him successfully for a few days now. BUT, we've been putting the peanut in the sling after he's been swaddled and asleep for awhile (we take off the blanket when we put him in). When he wakes up in the sling, he doesn't mind it at all, just lets DH know he's hungry, but doesn't freak out or anything...

Today, we tried putting him in it when he was awake, and he wasn't having it - we just tried for a few minutes, and DH sang and rocked him and walked around, but we took him out after a bit, as he was reeeally not happy about it. My question - how do you get the baby acclimated to the sling? Should we just keep putting him in while asleep for the next few weeks until he gets bigger, and then try doing it awake again?

My other question is when c-section mamas have started slinging - I'm thinking I'll start next week at 4 weeks, bc I just don't want to push anything (I'm a worrywart). Any suggestions on when it's good to start?

TIA!!

My son only likes to be upright in the sling, sometimes facing out. He does have great head control all ready though. He sleeps in it for hours which is awesome. He will let my husband wear him in a more cradle position though. I would say to keep trying a little bit each day and try different angles and positions.

As far as being a c-section Mom, I started wearing Ephraim the second week. I felt that if I could carry him I could sling him. But it's your comfort level that matters. I also wear a pretty tight pouch sling that carries him high, so no problems with being too close to my incision.

So my advice is to keep trying!

I wear my dd upright and (of course) always nurse her when she first gets in there. she generally loves it since she likes to be carried that way.

so my advice would be to wear your baby how you'd carry him. if he likes to be held cradled, wear him cradled etc. gl

As far as when to sling after a section...I tried my hotsling & found it hurt my back, but I can wear my Hug A Bub with no problem (2 weeks after the section).

Robin is fussy if I put her in the sling awake, too! I just keep trying and hoping that she'll get used to it. She likes having her legs dangle so I think sometimes she doesn't like that she has to be all tucked in. Or maybe I'm doing everything wrong!! I'm going to go to a babywearing meeting locally to see if I can get some IRL help with getting her comfortable. I'd like to be able to wear her a lot more than I do, but I must be patient...

She seems to prefer the mei tai over a ring sling, fyi.
