My 4 year old son peed in the cat litter box. As a natural consequence, I had him scoop the litter box and add new litter. It's a chore I don't much care for, so I thought maybe it would be unpleasant enough to discourage him doing it again. Guess what? He thought that was so much fun, he has now peed in the litter box 6 more times. I've told him repeatedly, the toilet is for people to go potty, the cat litter box is for cats to go potty. And despite my completely emptying, scrubbing and refilling the litter box, my cats are now refusing to use the box, I can only assume because of the presence of my son's urine. I've offered to let him scoop the box for me every day if he would just use the toilet instead of the cat box, but to no avail.
