Read at your own risk... - Page 6

I'm so glad I logged on today! A very interesting thread...

The problem with "planned retention" is that nobody knows if bleeding will be a problem until it IS one.

On the other hand, if the placenta is not near the scar, there is no accreta.

Best to you.

Okay... I'm lost in the dates. Did you skip the scheduled section? Or is that next monday??

Wow, what an interesting practice. Never heard of that before.

Here's what I'm not clear on, after reading the various links about planned retention... does the circumstance of the placenta staying in for days/weeks occur in the absence of placenta accreta?

One of the studies that was posted looks like it specifically controlled out cases of accreta, and *still* found that outcomes were significantly better with natural expulsion of the placenta. If that expulsion typically happens within a day or two in the absence of accreta, it sounds like it might be a really GOOD idea in the event of any c-section, even though your risk of accreta is very low. (Unfortunately, that study didn't document how long expulsion took.)

Yep, she skipped it, and in planning a UBAC. See her thread in the UC forum.

Jesus christ. That thought doesn't deserve a wink, like she's doing something cute.

Please refraind from taking my Lord's name in vain.

You can refrain from taking your own lord's name in vain. It's not like a sinner like me saying it makes him roll over in the grave or anything.

Then what does it mean to you to use His name?

A fairly standard American colloquialism.

Personally, my favorite saying is "sweet and creamy jesus on a popsicle stick". But I'm a rabble-rouser that way.

Good God, this has me freaked out! It seems really dangerous to me. I've heard of women getting terrible infections from retained placenta.

The idea of someone with four cesarean scars, at least one of which is a T incision, and extensive scarring trying to UC freaks me out more than infection in this case. Infection is treatable.

I'm closing this thread at this time. If anyone wishes to start another thread on the general topic of conservative versus aggressive management of the placenta in cesarean surgery with placenta accreta, feel free.
