Super dry skin on my 2yo

My dd has super dry skin. We've been using the Earth Mama Angel Baby lotion, sometimes coconut oil in addition, but its terrible. Its not excema-like, but its rough and dry (like a 2 yo should not have ). Any suggestions?

Maybe you could try giving her probiotics. It often works right away on children. If it works for her, it should be apparent within a week.

Are you using soap? Bubble bath? Stop. Put some baking soda in the bath water and let her soak off the dirt. I have found out recently that no one really needs soap, especially little ones without BO.

You can melt coconut oil and cocoa butter together to make an awesome
body butter.

And try to get more oil IN her-- apparently some people can get their kids to take cod liver oil *cough* not mine *cough* But cooking food with a little extra oil, extra butter, etc can help a lot with dry skin.

We use apricot kernal oil on our little boy. he also gets extremely dry, patchy skin.

Once in the morning and once in the evening seems to do the trick.

I also second the Baking Soda in the bath.

And we only bathe him 1-2 times a week.

I like Kukui Nut Oil, I get it here http://www.mountainroseherbs.com/bulkoil/d-l.html I also once found a good hawaiian website which describes Kukui Nut Oil and what the Hawaiians have used it for over the centuries but it escapes me now, if I find it I'll post it later. My two youngest have Ketaris Pilarus (sp?) which causes little bumps on their skin and dryness. Just cutting out all the yuckies (like bubble baths, anything with sls, parabens and "Fragrance") we have come a long way, I like natural whipped body butters too.

Oh okay, here is a site with some Kukui info, not the same one I was at before though http://www.kukui.org/kukuiproduct.html Also those with Nut Allergies beware

She bathes every night, but only because she wants to. She actually refuses not to, to be exact . We only use soap (again, the Earth Mama Angel Baby) every other night, and then only in her hair on on her butt. Everywhere else just wash with the water. Nothing else in the tub, but we do have hard water and it is winter so its dry here.

Where does a person find plain old cocoa butter?

My DS does get eczema and I use coconut oil and lanolin to help him. I put VCO on after every bath if his skin is dry and try to get him to consume it as well. I also use lanolin on the driest spots and cover them w/ clothes. The lanolin really seems to do the trick. Also, it seems like his skin stays better moisturized if I wash him w/ honey.

In the "ethnic" section of almost any store (drug store, dollar store, wally-world). I comes in a 2 oz push up tube thingy. Just like orange push-pops without the stick

My DD and I both have eczema on our hands (and she has it on her face and legs during the winter). The best product that I've found is the Skin Free line of lotions. They are made with mostly oils (like 90% oil) so they are super moisturizing without feeling greasy. I've only had to use my hand steroids once since I started using the Skin Free stuff and it really helps with skin itching as well.

My eczema baby did great with a full body lather of olive oil before bath time every other night. I would rub it all over her and have her stand in th bathroom with me while I ran the tub. The just water and when she got out a gentle pat dry so most of the oil stayed on her skin.
