Just need a little reassurance.....

My older son's foreskin easily retracted by age two. Never have had any issues at all to this day. My younger son, who is almost 6, isn't even close to retracting. It looks the same as the day he was born. Just like my older son, he has never had any issues, no pain, no infections but I want to make sure NO progress is still ok and what, if any, complications or issues could he have in the future and when? I never, ever pull back on it or have him pull on it.

There have been more than a half dozen studies trying to determine the "proper" time for retraction. The first found that 2/3 of 3 year olds were retractile but another found that 70% of boys were not fully retractile until after puberty. (12 -14 years old) The one I suspect is more likely correct showed that half of boys are retractile by 10.5 years old. That means that half are also not retractile by that age.

Natural retraction is not generally something that progresses slowly but instead it happens in a relatively short time. Your son not showing any indications of progress is not a concern. It'll happen when it happens.

Thank you.....I was apparently coming across the wrong studies (or just more studies) that were showing a really high rate of retracting by 2 or 3. Google can be a bad thing sometimes. : )

Every boys different. The process and range of age to retraction is very variable. My older son didn't retract AT ALL till age 8, and then he became retractable almost over night. My younger son was fully retractable by age 2.

We have similar variation at our house.
#1 is 5yo and not at all retractible.
#2 has been retractible since age 3.
#3 is already starting to retract at 19 months.

Thank you for giving me your own personal experiences on how different the ages can be! I should know better than to compare, so thanks for reminding me that there is no set age.
