hihi i am sorta lurking because i am pondering dreads. i have no free time and am wondering if anyone here has done the braid method of dreading also i nopoo and i keep reading about importance of washing hair and so i am uncertain. for years i had short bright green hair but now it is plain and ordinary and that just won't do and i don't want to mess with bleach and stuff now that i am always with my baby

Just checking in! 11 months, now...

A couple of days ago, I was combing Clare's hair after bath. When I was finished, she asked if she could comb mine. I'm telling you, the look on her face, hoping she could have a turn... I almost cut and combed right then! Later that night, I was wondering what I could do with her to let her have fun with my hair. I thought I could let her pick the dreads to put the beads on, and let her slide the stitches on when she could. Do 'ya think this would work? I hate to have her miss out on some fun with my hair...

i think that would work really well, mamabearto4.
let her decorate them, but beads and wraps and stuff in.

That's what Drihan does with my hair. She takes the beads and rings and moves them all around until she gets just the right look.

Here is a not so good pic of my three month old dreads. This is my second set. The first time I was really obsessive about palm rolling and waxing. This time I'm just letting them be. I'm tempted to dye them, cause I have this brassy thing going on, and I'm impatient with letting my natural color come back. But I remember bleaching them with my first ones and that being a total disaster...
Maybe I'll wait.

yay! i love dreads, and i love mothers. i'm new to this community and have pretty much been lurking. my dread babies are around 2months-ish now, but they're all natural so alot of my head still looks like hair, though my hair is incredibly curly and i've seperated the knots so i'll have really small dreads. my dreads are even curly themselves! i'm glad they kept it :] i'm also almost 8 weeks pregnant now and i can't wait to watch my belly grow and my dreads mature at the same time. so much change! heres a picture of my hair/dreads from a couple of weeks ago:

So, I'm tentatively dreading my hair using the neglect method. I may wash and comb out the two day old tangles just now, because my mom is coming this weekend, and I don't want her to talk me out of it before I can backcomb them in permanently. And then I can get a "before" picture. But after that, it's neglect, and backcombing! Yeah! And a pretty headscarf to hide the transition. Heh.

Hi ladies

Over a year ago I promised myself dreadlocks as a graduation gift. Now graduation is less than a month away and I am so excited for my new dreads. So I'll just be lurking in the meantime...

Late to the party, but here I am

Getting spring fever myself... thinking (as I did last year) of bleaching out my dreds and dying them pink and purple...

Greetings Mamas,
(I think I put this on the old thread so I'm posting it here too)
Well it turns out that my hubbie is uncomfortable with the idea of me in dreds, and is totally against it.
But...a wonderful thing happened as a result of my joining this tribe. I discovered hoopdancing! Someone posted a link to "Jess's blue dress birthday spin", and I watched it. I was so inspired by the beauty of it that I bought myself a hoop and have a beginner's DVD on the way me. I'm very excited about this; it's been along time since I have felt strong and beautiful, and I feel like this is a gift dropped in my lap.
So thank you, fellow-Mamas, I may not be a "dreadie" but I will see if there is a hooping forum here on Mothering!
Blessings, (and thanks to Jess!)
Sue, homeschooling Mama to 6, and aspiring hoopdancer

Hi,I have 2 weeks old dreadlocks that I really love!My scalp is really really itchy right now,and the locks aren't looking as good as they did when they were new.But this is normal, right? There are many loose hairs sticking out of them, and they feel "softer"...
I think it's totally normal for them to look different. I'm at about 6 weeks and mine have all fallen out to some extent. some of them are still ok but a lot of them are loose. I actually took the advice from majikfaerie gave to wonderma and tied some hemp string around the loose ones. I was happily surprised yesterday when I was doing this that all my hair is still separated and trying to dread. I think the stings will help out a ton and I feel ok with them in my hair long term, unlike rubber bands.

I'm much happier today after really getting some time with my hair yesterday, lol. I am loving the freedom of having these dread babies. I am loving the craziness, the fuzziness, the whole thing!

My parents are coming next week and my mom is for sure going to get on my case. It's cool though, I'm not stressing about it this time. She's already made comments about them and I've laughed them off or just pleasently defended myself. Last time I tried dreads I let them defeat me. Not this time though. I am in a different place, a much happier more peaceful place. I am confident in my choices.

wow. long ramble. felt good though!

Henna tonight! :

Takhisis - That's totally normal. You'll even get to a point where they look downright wonky. Don't sweat it...for a long time. It took me months to learn to be content with mine. It seemed that they looked different every time I looked in the mirror! The beauty of these things is that they don't have to (nor do they want to) look the same. Enjoy the little surprises and wrap them in a pretty scarf if you're in a funk. Stick with it, sister!

MF, you truly are a beauty, as is your girlie! Sounds like one fab fun life you have going on over there!

Ok, henna this morning!

Had a pox party last night and didn't get around to my henna meditation. So, I put it on this morning while I had the kids in the tub. Wasn't quite the calm, peaceful ritual that it was last time, but that's OK. It's in there, and once again - I forgot to take 'before' pics. Oh, well. I'll get the 'after' pics done...
