Teaching the concept of recycling to 3 yo

I'm so glad to see this new forum I'm trying to teach my 3 yo ds about recycling. We have a recycling bin and he loves carrying out the recyclables but I haven't yet gone into what/why we recycle. I'd really like it to be more first hand for him ... any books/activities/videos/websites, etc. that would help him understand?

why should I recycle and a few other of these are awesome. I have been reading these to my kids since they were about that age. My 5 yr old would not even think of not recycling. As she says- "Everyday is Earth day Mommy!"

I just tell my kids that it's good for the Earth and that we don't want trash just building up on the Earth.

My daughters have an "Every Day is Earth Day" poster in their room b/c my older dd requested it from an adult a year or so ago. Gotta love the Earth-friendly kiddos!

I've been trying to tell my 3 yr old about recycling lately. We looked at the Nike page yesterday and I showed him the pictures of their shoe recycling center. I told him that they chop the old shoes up into little pieces and then make them into basketball courts etc. I'm not sure he really understands yet
