Please help--need retraction info for pediatrician

My 6-month-old son is intact. At his first WBV, his ped gently pulled back his foreskin and told me to pull it back regularly to clean the area. At his last visit a few days ago, she again pulled it back slightly and said, "you're moving this back to clean, right?" I said yes, but in fact I have not been doing it since I read a few things about it in this forum. I probably did it 3 or 4 times before deciding that she was wrong.

First, can someone please confirm that I am right and she is giving me bad information? I hate confrontation and putting people on the defensive, but I feel strongly that I need to set her straight on this issue. This is a busy practice with a lot of doctors, so I wonder how many other intact babies are getting the same treatment.

I searched the sticky threads and found some information about never pushing the foreskin back, but I would like some supporting evidence to print out and bring to her. I think she will take it more seriously if it is from a source she finds credible. I have two children under 2 and have very little time to search out info myself. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Here is the most recent AAP statement on care of the uncircumcised penis.
http://www.medem.com/medlb/article_d...DD&sub_cat=108

There is NOTHING in it about pulling the foreskin of a nonretractable boy back to clean underneath regularly.

"Your son's intact or uncircumcised penis requires no special care and is easy to keep clean. When your son is an infant, bathe or sponge him regularly and wash all body parts, including the genitals. Simply wash the penis with soap and warm water. Remember, do not try to forcibly retract the foreskin."

Please give her the CORRECT info

I know it's not easy having children at such a young age and finding free time, but since you're already here reading this, please print out the correct information you learned here and other sources and give it to her at the next visit. I think it's essential that she receive AND understand it (fully believe it)...... not this type of God complex like some doctors and nurses have thinking, "Yeah, sure! YOU'RE trying to educate ME!".

If you're gutsy enough (I am, but I know not everybody is), I'd even chide her a little bit for being the one who should know better and giving out misinformation to not only YOUR child, but to OTHER intact males, since her misinformation is leading to harm. IGNORANT MEDICAL STAFF ARE CAUSING DAMAGE AND LEADING TO REVERTING BACK TO THE OUTDATED, PURELY WRONG WAY OF THINKING ("We tried leaving them intact, problems occurred and lead to inevitable circumcisions, so we should just do it routinely at infancy to avoid it from happening."). Well, WHY were problems happening? Because parents and medical staff were messing in a place where they have no business messing in (re: retractions)!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ugh.

Thanks to everyone for the great information. I absolutely will print out some info and give it to her. I probably won't go so far as to chide her--I think I already irritate her a bit because I question everything and refuse to vaccinate. I don't want her to tell me to take a hike.

I'm concerned that she won't even listen or read the info. She has a tendency I've seen in a lot of doctors to listen to the first three words of my sentence and then stop listening so she can spout her wisdom.

Stop seeing her. She sounds like she is not the right Dr for you, OR ANYONE. her head is too big for anymore information to fit...
